1 Curriculum Committee E-meeting September 1, 2011 From: Sent: To: Cc: Subject: Attachments: Goede, Diane Thursday, September 01, :39 PM Denton, Anne; Esslinger, Ted; Lewis, Adam; Littmann, Friedrich; Liu, Guodong; Magel, Kenneth; Melnykov, Volodymyr; Routledge, Clay; Swenson, Orven; Voronov, Andriy Nawrot, Mark; Goede, Diane fast-track course proposals CHEM pdf; PHYS370 (3).pdf; PHYS pdf; UNIV 151.pdf; ZOO pdf Curriculum Committee: Welcome to the new year, and welcome to the committee for the new members. Attached are five "fast-track" courses that we try to get approved quickly - if everything is in order with the course and the proposal. Please look at the attached proposals and respond to the entire committee (including Diane) if you have any concerns. Proposals that raise concerns will be held for the main meeting in a few weeks. Otherwise, if you find them in order we should have someone move to approve the courses and then have everyone log a vote to Diane (and the committee). We should probably have these votes forwarded to Diane by next Friday. Sound reasonable? Thanks, Mark Mark Nawrot, PhD Professor of Psychology Center for Visual Neuroscience Department of Psychology North Dakota State University mark.nawrot@ndsu.edu From: Sent: To: Subject: Nawrot, Mark Thursday, September 08, :08 AM Goede, Diane; Denton, Anne; Esslinger, Ted; Lewis, Adam; Littmann, Friedrich; Liu, Guodong; Magel, Kenneth; Melnykov, Volodymyr; Routledge, Clay; Swenson, Orven; Voronov, Andriy Re: fast-track course proposals Curriculum Committee, I haven't seen any discussion of the 5 fast-track proposals yet, so I might as well start:
2 (In the past the committee has tried to do these fast-track meetings via because it is very difficult to find times when everyone can meet. Committe members can air concerns, agreement/disagreement, approval /disapproval, or suggest we hold something for a more complete discussion the next face-to-face meeting. If everyone seems to agree that the proposals are in order we have everyone send a vote to Diane or to the committee.) Chem 476/676 - change credits from 1 to 3 - change in Bulletin Description Phys adding a corequisite - change in Bulletin Description Phys 455/655 - change in Bulletin Description - remove obsolete prerequisite - revise coreq to prereq. Zoo 477/677 - change in Bulletin Description - delete prerequisite The four course updates seem in order to me. Anyone have any concerns? *** Univ new course The new course, Univ 151, follows from the Univ 150 vein in using the UNIV prefix to fulfill a broader niche than a CHEM prefix. The course outline seems reasonable to me. Does anyone have any concerns about this new course, or would like to hold it for discussion at the next regular meeting? (Sociology might have an issue with the similarity to their Soc 431, but these are probably quite different courses, probably approaching a similar set of issues from different perspectives. However, I believe that s a different committee s issue.) **** I would like move to approve all 5 course proposals. (Here is where someone either seconds the motion, or brings up disagreement, suggestions for revisions or to hold something, or whatever...)
