2 Course/Module description: The purpose of the course is introduction of major issues in Byzantine archaeology, especially from the 4th to the 8th c. troughout the Christian world. The topics to be discussed include building methods, urban planning, Christian art and architecture, burial and burial customs and small finds. Course/Module aims: The student will become acquainted with key sites of the Byzantine period and ץarchaeology basic topics in Christian Learning outcomes - On successful completion of this module, students should be able to: 1 active participation 2 reading of bibilography Attendance requirements(%): 70 Teaching arrangement and method of instruction: Frontal lecture Course/Module Content: Historical introduction: Cities, towns and villages; private housing; Christian architecture, domus ecclesiae; Constantine churches, churches in the fifth and sixth centuries around the Mediterranean; Monks and Monasteries; burial and burial customs; Christian art; small finds Required Reading: 1.
