Shelley Landrieu spoke with a representakve of the Touro Bouligny Neighborhood AssociaKon about expanding the Irish Channel Cultural Products District. They had been in discussion of submisng an applicakon to create a new Cultural Products District.

Box Baton Rouge, LA Dear Ms. Hamilton: As Advisor to the Mayor on Cultural Economy for the City of New Orleans, I am pleased to offer the City s support for the expansion of the Irish Channel Cultural District (ICCD). We believe the proposed expansion of the district will add a culturally and architecturally significant area to a vital and diverse district that would not be complete without it. Cultural Districts promote preservation, arts, culture, and tourism through its two primary program benefits, the original art sales tax exemptions and the residential and commercial historical rehabilitation tax credits. The expanded ICCD will fulfill all the goals of the program. The historic Garden District will immensely benefit from rehabilitation tax credits and St. Charles Avenue and Washington Avenue include several restaurants and live music venues, as well as an art gallery, which indicates a potential for further cultural economic development.
