1 Roll of Honour WW1 Private Henry DINGLE, born Philleigh, 7 th son of William & Catherine Dingle of Ruan High Lanes Service number th Bn., Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry Died 7 th February Aged 34. Died of wounds. At the time of death his battalion was attached to the 2 nd Division, who were involved with operations in Ancre. There is a headstone in Aveluy Communal Cemetery, Somme, France. He is on the war memorial in Ruan Church and also on the war memorial at St Stephens-in-Brannel. He received the Victory, British and 15 Star Medals Before the war he was a clay labourer at St Stephens-in-Brannel. 2 nd Cousin to Carol Hughes Private Thomas DINGLE, born Philleigh, 3 rd son of William & Catherine Dingle of Ruan High Lanes Service number 3/ st Bn., Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry Died 28 th March Aged 41. Killed in action. At the time of his death his battalion was attached to the 14 th Brigade, 5 th Division, who were involved in the lead up to the 2 nd Battle of Ypres. There is a headstone in Kemmel Chateau Military Cemetery, Belgium. He is on Roll of Honour for Ruan but not on the War Memorial Plaque. He is however on the war memorial stone at St Dennis. He received the Victory, British and 15 Star Medals Before the war he was a clay labourer at St Dennis. 2 nd Cousin to Carol Hughes
2 Private Edwin LITTLE, born Ruan, only son of Richard Edwin & Eliza Ann Little of Tresemple, St Clement, Truro Service number th Bn., Royal Berkshire Regiment Died 12 th October Aged 21. Killed in action. At the time of his death his battalion was attached to the 53 rd Brigade, 18 th (Eastern) Division, who were involved in the Battle of Passchendaele. He has no headstone but is named on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium. He is on the war memorial in Ruan Church. He received the Victory and British Medals. In 1911 he was a boarder at Truro Wesleyan College. 1 st November 1917 Cornishman Little Oct. 12, killed in action, in France, Pte. E. Little, L.G.S., aged 21, only son of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Little, Treworgie Vean, Ruanhighlanes, Grampound Road. Private Hedley James Garfield PERRY, born Camborne, son of John & Thirza Perry of Chyvelah House, Kenwyn Service number th Bn., Devonshire Regiment Died 4 th December 1918, Dorset. Aged 21. Died of wounds. He died shortly after the war had finished. His battalion was attached to the 7 th Brigade, 25 th Division, who were involved in the final advance on Picardy and it is likely that this is where he received his wounds. There is a headstone at Gillingham New Cemetery, Dorset. He is on the war memorial in Ruan Church. He received the Victory and British Medals. In 1911 he was a schoolboy at Camborne.
3 Private Reginald John James BUCKINGHAM, born Wynberg, South Africa, eldest son of James & Susan Jane Buckingham, Ruan. Husband of Rhona (Remarried in 1921, now called GREET of Faircross, Grampound.) Service number 20279, formerly Bandsman, 6 th Bn., Somerset Light Infantry, formerly Duke of Cornwall Light Infantry Died 23 rd March Aged 27. Died of wounds received in action at the 46 th casualty clearing station, France At the time of his death his battalion were attached to the 43 rd Brigade, 14 th (Light) Division, who were involved with the Battle of St Quentin. There is a headstone in Noyon New British Cemetery, France. He is on the war memorial in Ruan Church and also on the war memorial at Tregony. He received the Victory, British and 15 Star Medals. Before the war he was a Postman for the GPO Great Uncle to John Conbeer Cornishman 7 th May 1936 Roseland Parish erects war memorial. Eighteen years after the cessation of hostilities, the parish of Ruanlanihorne, in Roseland has erected a war memorial. A number of relatives of fallen subscribed towards a memorial, and recently the rector and churchwardens obtained a faculty for its erection in the church. It has now been placed there, and comprises a Cornish polished slate tablet, on which the names of the fallen are inscribed. Twenty of her men served in the Great War, four of them paying the supreme sacrifice. One is permanently disabled, two partially disabled, and one other was wounded. At the service on Sunday evening, Rev. H. Dunn, rector, preaching from the text Be ye perfect, even as my Father is perfect, alluded to the sacrifice of the men whose names were on the tablet made for the welfare of the nation.
