2 THE FUTURE OF THE BUILT ENVIRONMENT SUSTAINABILITY, CARBON NEUTRALITY AND BEYOND Join UNEP SBCI* and its partners for a top level meeting on climate neutrality and green building. The building sector is known by leading experts of climate change to be the market offering the greatest potential for greenhouse gas emission mitigation. The exchanges taking place in May will be crucial to pave the way to a tangible consensus next year, in Paris, during the Conference of Parties (COP21), where all State members will sign the next global climate agreement. The Future of the Built Environment: Sustainability, Carbon Neutrality and Beyond will be a unique opportunity to meet international experts of green building and climate change, and hear exemplary green building case studies, expert panels and special presentations. On May 12 th, attendees may assist in the UNEP SBCI Annual General Meeting or join the 10 th Anniversary Conference of the Quebec Chapter of the Canada Green Building Council. Over the past decade, Mazria s seminal research into Building Sector energy use and carbon emissions has reshaped our understanding of climate change. He is the founder of Architecture 2030, a non partisan, non profit research organization developing planning, policy, and design solutions for transitioning to lowcarbon/zero carbon, sustainable built environments worldwide. In 2006, with Architecture 2030, Mazria issued the 2030 Challenge, a measured and achievable strategy to dramatically reduce global energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions through low carbon design. The initiative has since been adopted by the nation s leading professional organizations and architecture firms, influencing the design of billions of square feet of building space worldwide. In March 2014, he issued the Roadmap to Zero Emissions, a flexible approach to achieve zero CO 2 emissions in the built environment by the second half of century. 6
