Originally known as the Black Springs Cemetery, the nearby burial ground was established to serve pioneer settlers of the Keechi Valley and the settlement of Black Springs. The earliest marked grave is that of Mary A. Lasater ( ). Land for the cemetery was deeded by Adam Sheek, stepfather of the noted Texas cattleman Charles Goodnight. Renamed Oran Cemetery when a new community name was selected in 1886, it includes the graves of Goodnight's mother Charlotte Sheek ( ), Civil War veterans, pioneer settlers and early community leaders. 12 Tom Green Co., San Angelo Standard-Times, 12 Feb 2001, Obituary of Clara Bell Stout [#27841] {11738} Clara Bell Stout, 91, of San Angelo died Saturday, Feb. 10, 2001, in a local nursing home. Service will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in Robert Massie Riverside Chapel with the Rev. Jay Adcock of United Pentecostal Church of Pasadena and the Rev. Ray Aldridge of United Pentecostal Church of Robert Lee officiating. Burial will follow in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens. Arrangements are by Robert Massie Funeral Home. Clara was born Nov. 26, 1909, in Thurber, to Jess and Laura Bell Hall Sheek. She married Joseph Henry Stout on Aug. 16, 1938, in San Angelo. He died on Aug. 12, Clara was a very devoted and loving wife, mother and friend who will be deeply missed. She worked for M System Food Stores for more than 25 years before retiring. Clara was also very instrumental in keeping the United Pentecostal Church of San Angelo organized and together during the early years when the West Texas ministers were few and far between. Survivors include a daughter, Jo Ann Adcock and husband, Jay, of Pasadena; two sons, Roy Lee Edwards and wife, Elizabeth, of Kemp and Paul Richard Stout of Illinois; a sister, Velma Ewing and husband, Thell, of San Angelo; six grandchildren; 13 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
