2 Candidate for President-Elect Angela Morton Mathes Brierre Architects Angela Morton is a Principal with Mathes Brierre Architects in New Orleans, where she has worked since She earned her architecture license in 2007 and is also LEED certified. She has an undergraduate degree in Architecture and English literature from the University of Virginia and Master of Architecture from the University of Michigan. Angela has been an active member of the American Institute of Architects, where she has served in various board positions from the state and local chapters, including State Associates director, local Associates director, State representative and Vice President for District B. Angela also chaired and co chaired the CANstruction event for a number of years, which was proud to be the largest food-raising event for the Second Harvest Food bank for many of those years. She looks forward to the opportunity to grow the local organization, reinforce and strengthen the advocacy efforts of the chapter to better the environment for all architects to practice and to continue to be a source of quality programming and education, in partnership with the New Orleans Architecture Foundation.

3 Candidate for Vice President Harvey Burns, AIA, NCARB, CSI Jahncke & Burns Architects - Principal of Jahncke & Burns Architects - Masters of Architecture from The Ohio State University Certificate of Summer Studies from Oxford university Bachelor of Science from The Ohio State University Retired Army National Guard Major, Attack Helicopter Pilot - Commercially rated helicopter pilot- Federal Aviation Administration Interests: Art, Flying, Chess, Military Strategy Active in local AIA and NOAF with interests of assuming responsible leadership roles in both. Participation includes: - Co-founding and heading the outreach lecture series for NOAF in 2014 with topics ranging from Antoine s Restaurant, to Historic Tax Credits to featuring Architect s/ developer s work. - Co-chaired in 2016 AIA Design Awards Program - Volunteered in the 2016 NOAF Home Tour - Initiating the Living Architect s Archive program in effort to record architect s professional and personal history for future generations

4 Candidate for Vice President Amanda Rivera, AIA Eskew+Dumez+Ripple Amanda is an Architect and Senior Associate with Eskew+Dumez+Ripple. She is finishing out her two-year term as Treasurer on the AIA New Orleans Executive Board and had served as YAF Coordinator on the board for Amanda participated in the Strategic Planning of AIA New Orleans in 2015, and has worked with the board to promote advancement of the developed vision and overall growth of the chapter. With key interests in sustainable site strategies and urban design, Amanda brings a critical perspective to her work as evidenced in her most recent projects, Crescent Park and New Orleans East Hospital. She is a member of USGBC LA, New Orleans CREW, and is a member of the class of New Orleans Regional Leadership Institute (NORLI).

5 Candidate for Secretary Christopher Johnson, AIA Christopher E. Johnson, Architect, LLC Grateful to have been able to grow his entire professional career while based in New Orleans, Mr. Johnson knows the importance of investing his time and talent to strengthen the profession and the community. He is committed to building opportunities for others to succeed in their professional aspirations as others who have built opportunities for him. In addition to the numerous private and public clients he has served as an architect, Mr. Johnson has also been integrally involved in landmark planning efforts, including the Bring New Orleans Back Commission, the Plan for the 21st Century [the New Orleans Master Plan ], and the new Comprehensive Zoning Ordinance for New Orleans. Building on this experience, he developed a seminar series hosted by the AIA in where members of the City Planning Commission staff taught the local architectural community about the new CZO and how to use it more effectively. This ultimately helped to increase the success of architects to build projects that embody the new design goals afforded by the CZO. He is now involved with organizing

6 Candidate for Secretary Christopher Johnson, AIA (continued) reviews and professional technical guidance by AIA members for a variety of municipal housing and zoning initiatives. Mr. Johnson has excellent experience bringing together disparate individuals and groups to find common ground that can be mutually beneficial. As Secretary of AIA New Orleans, his formal role will allow him to grow the offerings he can provide to the AIA, building on those he has already been providing for years. Mr. Johnson is an architect registered in Louisiana, a LEED Green Associate, is NCARB certified, and is the owner / principal of Christopher E. Johnson, Architect, LLC. He and his wife, Dr. Tanya Johnson, MS, PhD, have two amazing daughters, Laxmi and Saradha Johnson.

7 Candidate for Secretary Thom Smith, AIA Waggonner & Ball Thom Smith is an architect and urban designer at Waggonner & Ball, and works on large scale environment and planning projects. He is the Young Architects Forum (YAF) Representative on the AIA New Orleans Executive Board and also leads the communications task force. Thom is an active member of the local design community, serving on committees of the Greater New Orleans Water Collaborative and USGBC Louisiana, as well as other organizations. He is also an adjunct lecturer at Tulane University s School of Architecture. As Secretary, Thom plans to develop relevant new programming, increase engagement with and support of emerging professionals, and build on the momentum of the chapter s new executive director. Thom wants to expand partnerships and ensure that AIA New Orleans is the collective voice of architects for the city s tricentennial, learning from his experience on the award winning 10 Years 10 Stories exhibit. He graduated from Syracuse University, is a LEED Green Associate, and has lived and worked in New Orleans since 2007, first serving in AmeriCorps with Rebuilding Together.

8 Candidate for Treasurer (2 Year Term) Shannon French, AIA WDG Architects Engineers As Director of Design at WDG, Mr. French oversees all design projects in the office and works closely with all design staff in addition to clients and contractors. Part of his role at WDG also involves building out detailed budgets for both current and prospective projects and projecting the allocation of staff resources. Working with the other principals and management at the firm, Mr. French is a fiscally responsible leader with an eye for the big picture as well as attention to the finer details of fiscal spending, resource allocation and cash flow. As an active member of AIA New Orleans, Mr. French has been actively serving as a committee member with the NOAF. His diverse public interest experience also includes past service in the Peace Corps as well as with the Louisiana Peace Corps Association, where he served as Board President in 2012 and Mr. French maintains active involvement in The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB), where he has taken on committee and leadership roles including his most recent appointment as the 2015 NCARB Think Tank Committee Chair.

9 Candidate for AIA Louisiana State Delegate (2 Year Term) Sarah Rusche, AIA Rozas Ward Architects Sarah is a Healthcare Architect in New Orleans who is excited about getting involved in her community. She graduated from Mississippi State University with a Bachelor of Architecture in She has since been fortunate to work in great firms in Jackson, MS and Houston, TX before moving to New Orleans last autumn. Since finishing her exams last year, she has been taking every opportunity to travel and explore her new home. Her favorite things about New Orleans include all of the divided boulevards lined with live oaks, the overwhelming amount of restaurants to try, and all of the people who are committed to making the city a great place to live.

10 Candidate for AIA Louisiana State Delegate (2 Year Term) Janina Scalfano, AIA Campo Architects Fueled by early interests in both Math and Art and underlined by trips abroad, Janina knew from an early age that she would study architecture. As an architect and project manager at Campo Architects, Janina brings a fresh outlook on design and a thorough understanding of Building Information Modeling (BIM), making her progressive voice an asset to any team. After graduating from Louisiana Tech University with a Bachelors of Architecture, Janina tackled the Architectural Registration Exam becoming the youngest licensed architect in the Campo studio. Janina is also an active member of both the AIA New Orleans chapter of Women in Architecture and the Revit Users Group where she acts as a liaison to keep the studio engaged and informed. Recently, Janina worked on the AIA New Orleans 10 Years/10 Stories Exhibit, which received both national and state AIA recognition. Janina is currently coordinating the planning of the Beaux Arts Ball with Women In Architecture.

11 Candidate for AIA Louisiana State Delegate (2 Year Term) Charlotte Throop, AIA CDM Smith Charlotte Throop is on the board of directors of CDM Architects, Inc. and is the Southwest Regional Architectural Professional of Record for CDM Smith, Inc. In that capacity she provides technical reviews and quality assurance to projects in addition to providing oversight to the architectural staff in the region. You may ask who is CDM Smith. They are an international firm with a primary focus on water, environmental management, and transportation. They have operated in New Orleans for decades, but only in the past eight years have they had architects in the region. Her work is primarily in Louisiana and Texas with occasional work in Arkansas and Kansas, but is lucky enough to call New Orleans home. During Charlotte s school years at Tulane, she fell in love with the city, it s music, food and culture. During Jazz Fest season, you can find her every year, every day at the Fair Grounds. Currently, Charlotte s focus is on municipal and federal work. The most interesting aspect of the federal clients, such as the USCG and NASA is there committed focus to sustainability.

12 Candidate for YAF Representative Ashley Banks, AIA SCNZ Architects Ashley earned her Masters in Architecture from the University of Kansas in Her graduate-level experience as a part of KU s Design-Build Studio 804 helped inspire an appreciation for a hands-on approach to design, as well as an awareness for the necessity of a sustainable approach to all projects. Upon graduation, Ashley re-located to New Orleans to begin her career. She earned her license in 2016 and currently works at SCNZ Architects on a diverse range of local and national projects. Ashley is driven by the search for the creative and artistic expression of architecture and engaging in the unique design culture of New Orleans. She has enjoyed serving as Secretary for Women in Architecture, New Orleans for the last 2 years and participating in the local design professional community

13 Candidate for YAF Representative Jonathon Cothern, AIA Mathes Brierre Architects Jonathan completed his Master of Architecture at University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2003 after teaching sciences in Mississippi public schools. In Hattiesburg, MS, his tenure for a landscape architecture firm and his service on the executive board of the Historic Hattiesburg Downtown Association ignited his interest in historic preservation and urban revitalization and its influence on sustainable, whole, built landscapes. He joined Mathes Brierre Architects in 2010, and in 2014 was elevated to a Studio Manager of the firm. Travel inspires his work, but renovating his Bywater double shotgun, biking and the areas festivals have made him a local.

14 Candidate for Associate Director Lee Cooper, Assoc. AIA NANO Originally from New Jersey, Lee received a Bachelor of Science in Architecture from the Catholic University in Washington, DC in Shortly after graduation he moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University School of Architecture, graduating in While at Tulane, Lee participated in URBANbuild and worked in the Millhaus, Tulane s CNC fabrication lab. Since graduation, Lee has been involved with AIA events, like the annual bowling tournament and craw fish boil. After over a year at Campo Architects, Lee is currently working at NANO, LLC. In his free time, Lee volunteers for Open Architecture Network (formerly Architecture for Humanity), spends time enjoying watersports, and building furniture.

15 Candidate for Associate Director Jason Levy, Assoc. AIA Leo A. Daly Jason Levy is a 2012 graduate of Tulane School of Architecture. While pursuing his degree, Jason worked on several art installations through Tulane s A-Week and various local festivals. Additionally, he had several short essays published in evolo Magazine during this time. Shortly after graduation, Jason began working as an intern for SEI Architects. While at SEI, he worked on projects, across all phases of design, for public schools within the DC/ Maryland/Virginia region. After two years with SEI, Jason advanced to Leo A Daly s Washington DC office where he currently works onsite for the North Terminal Project for Louis Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans as a designer. This past year he had the pleasure of joining the Associate AIA committee as Events Coordinator and would be honored to continue serving the AIA New Orleans chapter as Associate Director for the upcoming 2017 year.
