3 Summary Information Repository Haverford College Quaker & Special Collections Title Emma Cadbury papers Call number Coll.1017 Date Extent 1.5 boxes (200 items) Language English Abstract The papers of Emma Cadbury ( ), a Quaker social worker, consist of correspondence, programs, essays, notebooks, and clippings. These papers were kept by Cadbury while attending Quaker Women's Yearly Meetings and summer schools at Haverford and Bryn Mawr Colleges and the George School (PA), during the early 20th century. No Biography/History Emma Cadbury [Jr.] (February 24, March 6, 1965) was the daughter of Joel and Anna Kaighn (Lowry) Cadbury. She was a Quaker educated at Bryn Mawr College, PA (1897, BA) and Wilmington - Page 3 -

4 College, OH (1962, LHD). Cadbury was committed to the international aspect of Friends' work and was the American Secretary of the Friends International Centre in Vienna from 1924 to Cadbury was a joint representative of the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) and the Friends' Council for International Service. She was chairman of Wider Quaker Fellowship (created by her brother-inlaw, Rufus Jones) of the American Section of the Friends' World Committee from In 1948 Cadbury toured Europe under sponsorship of the AFSC and spent four months in Vienna. She was also active in Quaker activities in the Philadelphia and Moorestown, New Jersey areas. Scope and Contents Cadbury's papers consist of letters, notebooks, images, and miscellaneous items. Most of the letters relate to Cadbury's interest and involvement with Quaker discussion groups and Quaker history. The notebooks contain notes taken by Cadbury on Quaker Women's Yearly Meetings and Summer Schools. Images include photographs of prominent contemporary Quakers and postcards of Quaker Meeting Houses and sites. The miscellaneous items are newspaper clippings, Quaker history research notes, programs, member lists, etc. 1: Photographs (ca. 15 items) including: Photographs of Arch Street Friends Meeting House, Philadelphia, PA.
