12 FIELD PROJECTS AND OTHER EXPERIENCES present Director of the UM-BVAR Cahal Pech Project, Belize. This is a partnership with the Belize Valley Archaeological Reconnaissance Survey (BVAR), which has resulted in six winter session field schools at a Classic Maya center, training 67 Montana students, and three summers of research focused on the Terminal Classic Period Co-Director of the Virginia City, Montana Archaeological Testing Project. With Montana Heritage Commission funding, the project completed two summer field seasons at a 19 th century gold mining town; supported field schools attended by 40+ UM students; produced two reports on the wide-ranging test excavation program; and resulted in an archaeological preservation plan for the town s state-owned properties Director, Northeast Sonora, Mexico, Archaeological Research Project. The project initiated systematic survey and excavation in the Bavispe Valley in order to address questions concerning the origins of farming villages in the region, the expansion of late prehistoric regional systems, and the transition to the Protohistoric Period Consultant, Human Origins in the Tropics Project, Central African Republic. This excavation project focused on a stone tool site near the Dangha-Sangha game reserve. I provided technical expertise in site mapping and field computers for the PI, Anna Roosevelt, University of Illinois-Chicago Visiting Scholar, Department of Anthropology, University of Arizona, Tucson. I engaged in research and writing during a sabbatical year Lead Instructor, US Corps of Engineers PROSPECT training program. Over three summers, I team-taught a one-week course on cultural resource management 11 times to ~300 federal officials from across the U.S. in Santa Fe, New Mexico Excavation Director / Computer Mapping Specialist, La Quina Project. For this NSF funded project at a Middle Paleolithic site in southwest France, I operated the computer field data collection system in1991 and supervised the excavations in the The PI was Arthur Jelinek, University of Arizona Research Associate, Department of Anthropology, University of Arizona, Tucson. I engaged in research and writing in my post-doctorate year Consultant and Instructor, Lower Amazon Project, Brazil. I provided expertise in electronic surveying and mapping techniques, field computers, and spatial and statistical analyses at sites ranging from a protohistoric town to Paleoindian occupations. Anna Roosevelt, University of Illinois-Chicago, was the PI. In , I trained Brazilian archaeology students in mapping technology. Funded by the NSF, NEH, and the Fulbright Foundation Archaeological Project Coordinator, The Centre for Archaeological Field Training, Pima College, Tucson. In this capacity, I worked on five projects. (1) The Midvale Historic Sites Project, for which I conducted assorted analyses, chapter writing, and editing; (2) I directed, analyzed, and wrote the report for the Houghton Hills Project, a systematic survey of 5,000 acres near Tucson; (3) I directed mitigation excavations at a portion of the Salida del Sol Site Douglas Page 12 of 15

13 Hohokam habitation site, conducted all analyses, and wrote the report; (4) I directed intensive surface recording and test excavations at the Flying V Archaic sites in the Tucson foothills, conducted all artifact analyses, and wrote the report; (5) I directed testing at a portion of AA:16:46, a Hohokam habitation site, analyzed the lithic artifacts, and wrote the report Blackwater Site Excavation, Gila River Indian Community. I served as crew chief for the excavations at a historic Gila Pima Indian homestead and analyst for the ground stone and chipped stone assemblage for this Arizona State Museum project Director, the Anthropological Resource Center, Cochise College, Douglas, Arizona. As director, I supervised excavations at the Boss Ranch Site field class; supervised a part-time laboratory director and student aides; developed a computer artifact catalog system for the collection; directed two SHPO-funded surveys; completed several Cultural Resource Management projects that employed students; organized a community outreach program that included open houses and media coverage Cerro Prieto Mapping Project, Pinal County, Arizona. Researcher on a project supported by the Arizona State Museum, the Department of Anthropology at the University of Arizona, and Pima College. As part of a volunteer group led by Christian Downum, I helped map a large Classic Hohokam Period masonry village with a total station, developed a database of the masonry features, and conducted statistical analyses Pitas Point Gas Project, Carpinteria, California. Excavated at a coastal site and analyzed and wrote the report for the lithic artifacts, for Chambers, Consultants and Planners Vandenberg Air Force Base, California, MX Project, I served as crew chief for intensive surface survey for Chambers, Consultants and Planners Southern Santa Clara Valley Project, California.
