2 EXPERTISE AND COMPETENCE OF EBESA ARCHITECTS (Pty) LTD History and Background : WESTERN CAPE (Cape Town) & GAUTENG (Johannesburg) OFFICES Ebesa Architects are professional service providers in all fields of architecture and project management, specialising in commercial and office buildings, housing schemes, civic centres, industrial and health facilities as well as green building design. The original practice, Engelbrecht & Bester Architects, was established in Bellville in 1977 by the partners Piet Engelbrecht and André Bester. Engelbrecht & Bester Architects developed into one of the leading medium to large architectural practices in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. The partnership was responsible for, and successfully completed, several landmark projects in the larger Cape Town area, as is evident from our list of over 700 projects and contracts executed. To accommodate changing trends and market requirements of the new South Africa, a new company was created Ebesa Architects was established on 1 January 006. The total staff component and obligations of the former partnership were taken over by Ebesa Architects. There are four professional architects as directors in management, of which PAC Engelbrecht is the Managing Director. In December 016 Ebesa Architects (Western Cape) merged with a well known and reputable architectural practice in Gauteng to expand Ebesa s professional horizons, now known as Ebesa Architects Gauteng. The staff component for the Gauteng office is currently eight members of which AA Steyn is a professional architect and director in management, plus six candidate and professional registered employees with SACAP (South African Council for the Architectural Professions) as is evident from the Human Resources List. 3 EXPERIENCE OF THE PRACTICE Portfolio Management System The practice is centrally positioned in both Cape Town (Tyger Valley) and Johannesburg (Illovo) from where all local and rural projects are handled. The practice is run on a portfolio basis to ensure that the best expertise of the total staff component is involved in every project, thus providing a personal and effective service on every project, however large or small. The portfolio system ensures an exceptional standard in the design, documentation, contract administration and cost control disciplines of architecture in comparison with the usual project architect system. Each director controls an architectural discipline for which he/she has a special ability and for which, through training and experience, is best qualified. This is especially relevant, in the architectural profession, no single architect can be a specialist in all of these disciplines. The company strives to maintain a high standard of service by constantly enrolling staff in training courses and work seminars and by employing the most up-to-date computer and other technology on the market. The documentation of projects is completely carried out by use of computer systems ensuring prompt and accurate results. The practice is especially well equipped to handle fast track projects with expert computer-aided support in addition to the portfolio system. We utilise cutting-edge and lifelike 3-dimensional modelling expertise to further aid visualisation, presentation and marketing purposes.
