He spearheaded the world s two largest cable-stayed bridge projects the 1,018m main span Stonecutters Bridge and the 1,088m main span Sutong Bridge. In Bangladesh, a country plagued by natural disasters, he created a seismic resilient and scour tolerant design for the Padma Bridge, a 6.15km-long rail-road river crossing. Status has to been granted, but influence is for one to exert. Skills can be acquired but initiative is for one to take. We wrestle with technology, cost, and programme, and delve into the global strategic issues which impact on procurement and delivery. We pioneer innovation, and popularize its benefits. We pursue continuous career development, and help young engineers to establish themselves. We have a problem for every solution, but we keep our eyes firmly on the ball. We adapt to a changing world, but we change the rules of the game Page 5 of 5
