I was asked to do a preliminary design by a UK pediatrician for a pediatric clinic in Mayasandra, India 2013 On a pro bono basis I was commissioned to design a new community center for the Community Action Council on Winburn Drive, Lexington KY. 3 Design/Build -Built 3 Monet Pavilions for the Dixie Magnet School Lexington KY Connected to an elective course at the UK College of Design I also directed parents and teachers for construction skills needed on these pavilions toward the completion of the total project Spring 2010 Design/Build Studio I and my graduate student built a Food Bar for the Julio Jaramillio School in Santo Domingo de los Colorados, Ecuador Chile I also guided my student and the parents of the grade schools students toward the construction of the project Spring 2010 Design/Build Studio I directed my students toward the construction of the studio design of the davinci Pavilion and with other site constructions for the Living Arts and Science Center, Lexington, KY Fall Spring 2009 Commissioned in conjunction with UK College of Agriculture and students of architecture in the UK College of Design to design and build a new storage shed and other minor structures for the University of Kentucky South Farm located at the intersection of Man oʼ War and Nicholasville Road, Lexington KY Fall 2004 Spring 2007 Commissioned in conjunction with UK College of Agriculture and students of architecture in the College of Design to design and build an agriculture work-space for the Horticulture Research Center at the University of Kentucky South Farm, Lexington KY Spring 2004-present Commissioned to design a small monastery complex for the Furnace Mountain Retreat Center, Red River Gorge area, Eastern Kentucky [not built] Fall present Construction of an outdoor experimental construction work/contemplation space located at my home in Lexington KY Fall Commissioned to design and build an Amphitheater and Community Center for Happy Top, Beattyville, Kentucky with the assistance of students in the UK College of Architecture 3
4 Spring 2000 Commissioned to design and build The Christ New Assembly Pentecostal Church, Lexington entucky. This was done in an upper level design studio in the UK College of Architecture and with Prajna Design/Constuction [not built] Spring Commissioned to design and build the Menifee County Wellness Center, Frenchburg Kentucky. This project was built over a series of semesters with UK College of Architecture students in their 3 rd to 5 th years Fall Freelance to 1984 A.E. Bye & Associates, Landscape Architect Greenwich, Connecticut Designer for the Stanford Arboretum Design consultant for Gainesway Farm Project, Lexington,KY I submitted a series of schematic designs for a bridge to be built on the farm I also worked as a consultant for planning of stallion barns and landscaping Restoration and addition to a 130-year-old house in Bardstown, Kentucky. Work included demolition of non-useable existing structures on site, restoration of existing historic structure, schematic, design development, and construction drawings of new addition. For the fall of 1979, I was on leave from the College of Architecture acting as builder and contractor for this project. My work included carpentry and masonry, and supervision and instruction of young architects at the site Amatuzzo, Roccanova and Friedman, Architects Lexington, Kentucky This partnership was created as a result of winning a national competition for a community theatre. Other work has included speculative proposals and consultation for the University and the Lexington community 1977 Project Railrest First place competition design for the adaptive reuse of railroad station in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Proposal included theatre, community center, restaurant and outdoor facilities. 4
5 1976 Jullian de la Fuente, Architect Atelier Jullian, Paris, France For this period I was employed as a designer and for the production of the final drawings to be submitted for the new French Embassy in Washington, D.C. This project was an international competition divided in two phases. After the first phase, Mr. de la Fuente's proposal was one of five chosen out of 150 to be further developed Hugh Wilson and Lewis Womersley, Chartered Architects and Town Planners, London, England For the time that I worked here, I was involved with two projects. On the first I was a member of a team of five architects responsible for the re-design of the City Center in Cardiff, Wales. My particular task was the design of the new Central Library. On the second project I was asked to be the project urban designer for the redevelopment of the Liverpool Street Station in Central London. Exhibitions. Publications. Lectures, Invited Reviews 2015 Invited to review the design proposal for the new Hospital in Hargeisa Somalia. The review group consisted of Builders Without Borders, The Chicago Art Institute and The Harvard Medical team that would run the hospital facility Invited to participate in final review for a 3 rd year architecture studio at the Chicago Art Institute, Chicago,IL 2013 Invited to participate in final reviews at the Institute of Chicago, Chicago IL Annual Community Figure Drawing Exhibitions Barnhardt Gallery University of KY. Service Committees I have been at one time or another on all the College of Architecture Committees, have chaired the Exhibitions, Curriculum, and Appointment, Promotion and Tenure Committees, was the Director of the European Design Workshop from , on the Dean Search Committee for 1990, and was the Director of the First Year Program from From I was on the Chancellorʼs Committee for International Students. I am a member of the University wide Shoulder to Shoulder Global Committee. I am a member of the Undergraduate Council 9
10 Teaching Levels During the course of my teaching I have taught at all studio levels of the five-year architecture program. I have also taught elective studios in painting, drawing, sculpture and urban design and seminars concerned with contemporary, historical, and cultural issues and their relevance to architecture. I authored an architecture exchange program for students of the Malyvia Regional Engineering College [MREC] Department of Architecture in Jaipur, India, and UK College of Architecture. [1992] I initiated an exchange program between students in the School of Architecture at the Universidad Catolica devalparaiso in Chile and students of architecture in the College of Design at the University of Kentucky. [2006] I have also had discussions about developing an exchange program with the Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo de la Universidad Central in Quito Ecuador. The potential for a partnership with an architecture program in Ecuador is on going Public Service Public service projects have included a number of Architectural presentations to the Lexington City Council and Neighborhood Associations. The presentations were concerned with controversial urban design issues in the Lexington area. I have also given a number of public talks in secondary schools on careers in architecture. I have done some volunteer crafts work for a local hospital. The design/build projects for Frenchburg, Lexington and Beattyville were without extra remuneration as is the year round Community Figure Drawing class that I lead.
