1 2012 Conference Wrap-Up October Officers & Board of Directors Elected School board members from across the state gathered in Ocean City October 3rd through 5th for MABE s Annual Conference. Board members met to share best practices, discuss changes in public education, and learn from keynote speakers and workshop presenters. In addition to conducting the business of the association during the Annual Business Meeting, members also elected new officers: President Rodger Janssen, Baltimore County President-Elect Katie Groth, Frederick County Treasurer Shirley Brandman, Montgomery County Secretary Verjeana Jacobs, Prince George s County Gary Bauer, Carroll County, now assumes the office of Immediate Past President, and Tom Carr, Garrett County is past president, second year. At the banquet on Thursday night, Rodger Janssen thanked Gary for his work as MABE s president and presented him with a plaque commemorating his service this past year. 10 A Celebration In honor of Carl Smith s retirement, a committee of board members and staff put together a celebration that had all the elements of a great surprise.
