Giulio (Guilio) Giovanni Vieceli (Viecelli) was born on 17 Jun 1880 in Fonzaso, Belluno, Italy and died on 10 Mar 1966 in Detroit, Wayne, MI at age 85. The cause of his death was Heart attack. General Notes: Nono came to America in 1906 by ship to stay with relatives and work in the coal mine. Angie said Nono probably came over with someone in the family and met his older brother, Luigi. Giuseppe, John (Giovanni), Antonio and Mose also came over at some point. Two brothers, Tino (Antonio) and Guiseppe went back to Italy. Two of Nona's brothers, Bortolo Sebben and (?), were also borders at their new home. Bortolo stayed and the other returned to Italy. Angie says two of Nona's brothers returned, so I don't know who else was here. Nona and her son, Gigo, came through Ellis Island in For some reason, Nono added an extra 'L" to his last name by the time he became an American citizen on August 26, Nona and Nona were the best of grandparents. They maintained their Italian heritage, values and close family ties. Lena and Uncle Mose lived with them while they lived. My family would visit their place in Plymouth, MI almost every week while I was growing up. They owned approximately two acres of land and raised grapes, apples, plums, peaches, cherries and other fruits and vegetables, which they sold in their fruit stand on Plymouth road. They also raised pigeons, rabbits and other animals. The geese served as watch dogs and were very aggressive. They liked to bite our legs and feet if we got too close. One of them made a very tasty Thanksgiving dinner one year at my father's place which I still remember. Nono liked to hunt and passed his 12-guage shotgun down to my brother Ron after he died. I received his pocket watch which I gave to my father, Julian, to keep for me. Uncle Mose served me a beer when I was seven or eight years old when I asked for some pop at the kitchen table. Uncle Mose taught us kids how to throw pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters into Easter eggs on the floor as an Easter game. We got to keep the money if we succeeded. Nono and Uncle Mose also made their own wine in the cellar. They used an old hand washing machine to squeeze the juice out of the grapes. 7 as it fermented. Descendants of Michele Vieceli Nona was a great cook. She always had plenty of soup, spaghetti, palenta, pigeon stew or other ethnic dishes for anyone who was hungry. The desert pastries were always great. I remember her voice in particular. Nona had a low, husky voice which I heard resulted from some sort of throat surgery. She clearly ran the househould when we visited. On October 19, 2003, I attended Uncle Jerry's 90th birthday party at a tavern near Nono and Nona's former house in Plymoth, MI. A McDonald's sits on the site where their old fruit stand once stood. The backyard is still empty, without the rows of grape vines and fruit trees. Giulio married Giovanna Sebben, daughter of Bortolo Sebben and Angela Marsiglio, on 3 Jan 1905 in Fonzaso, Belluno, Italy. General Notes: Julie was six years old when his family moved to Detroit, MI from Claridge, PA. My father was drafted November 28, 1942 into the Army during WW II and served in the 1ST and 5TH Army, 216TH Battallion Battery, Anti-Artillary and Aircraft unit as a PFC. He fought in Africa under General Patton's 1ST Army. Then the AAA was transferred to the 5TH Army where he fought campaigns in Sicily, Italy, France and Germany. His unit won several Bronze Stars in combat. He was never wounded in battle and returned home in October, Julie wanted to move to Alaska when he returned home. He met my mother at a roller rink in 1945 and got married instead. My parents moved from Garden City, MI to a farm in Webberville, MI in 1956 when I was eight and a-half years old. My Dad continued to commute 50 miles one way to Burroughs until he retired. Most of my father's relatives live in Detroit. I remember visiting my grandparents, Nono and Nona's home in Plymouth, almost every week before we moved to the farm. Starting in 1966, my parents hosted the yearly family reunion on the farm for 25 years while I was growing up. It was held on the third Sunday in August and is now held at Dennis and Joan Matuja's place in Richmond, MI. 11 Julian married Berta (Jean) Parrish, daughter of Earlie Andrew Parrish and Vera Maude Morrow, on 24 May 1947 in Detroit, MI. Berta was born on 7 Jul 1926 in McDougal, AR. General Notes: My mother was raised in in McDougal, AK until her family moved to Detroit in Mom was 11 or 12 when she moved. She went to the same high school in Plymouth where Julie went. Earl and Vera divorced when Mom was 16. She met my father at a roller rink after the war. They were married by a justice of the piece and lived at Nono and Nona's home for a short time before buying a home in Garden City, MI. They had a church wedding a few years later. Mom raised us seven kids while Dad worked the afternoon shift at Burroughs. She helped feed me while I attended college. She would bring chicken, patatoes and other things for me to cook. Mom is a big letter writer. I have several of her letters which describe everyday life on the farm. Mom was always helping some family member out. She took care of her mother, Vera, when she was sick and took care of Doris until she died M i. Ronald Julian Viecelli was born on 14 Mar 1948 in Plymouth, MI. Ronald married Sue Stevens (b.
