Just Play, is a collaborative program, between DOE and FFAS, that s been introduced into every elementary school s PE class in the territory. It is designed for children aged 6-12 and is based around structured activity programs, which also include the distribution of equipment packs containing balls, cones, bibs, activity manuals and other resources that enable children to play football/ soccer at anytime and in any situation. Yesterday they selected 10 elementary schools out of the 24 that participated and competed against each other not only in soccer but with their presentations too. And, the final 10 schools competed against each other at the Department of Youth & Women Affairs (DYWA), yesterday and were judged not only for their soccer skills but also in promoting the importance of staying active and leading healthier lives. DYWA was a full house yesterday with students and teachers from the 10 elementary schools competing, as well as with families and friends who were there for support. Director of DOE, Dr.Ruth Matagi Tofiga gave the opening remarks together with head of the FFAS, Faiivae Iuli Alex Godinet, who spoke about living a healthy lifestyle at a young age and to always exercise. Eight schools made it to the top Lupelele, St. Theresa, Fagasa, Tafuna, Pavaiai, Aunu u, Vatia, Afonotele elementary schools. Each school was assigned to present how the Just Play Some of the elementary school students who made it to the Top 10, and competed and presented their skills, techniques for the Just Play program final at the DYWA center in Pago Pago, yesterday morning. [photo: EM] program has helped them in their schools, and had to show their own kind of skills and techniques on playing the sport, in staying active, to the judges. A teacher of Fagasa Elementary said to Samoa News, This is such a great program because nowadays you would see all sports activities is mainly for high schools and older people. To have this sport it will help the children want to stay active and keep playing to avoid becoming obese. An FFAS official said, FFAS is committed to growing football at every community and school levels on our island. So to have this unique program called Just Play it plays an important role in all these schools. One of the main reasons why we promote this program is because it is a physical activity for elementary-aged children, which will encourage community involvement and healthy living.

Page B2 samoa news, Friday, April 28, nd-day draft steals? Cook, Lamp could go early; Mixon, too RALPH D. RUSSO, AP College Football Writer The last two players to be selected with the first pick of the second round of the NFL draft were New York Giants star safety Landon Collins in 2015 and Cleveland Browns promising pass rusher Emmanuel Ogbah last year. The point being there is plenty of big-time talent left on the board when the first round ends. That is especially the case this season, when the draft class was considered to have more first-round talents than firstround picks. Six players with first-round talent that will be available Friday during Rounds Two and Three. DALVIN COOK, RB, FLORIDA STATE Cook was right there with top-10 picks Leonard Fournette and Christian McCaffrey at the end of the college season. Some character red flags have popped up, but their validity seems debatable. Questions about ball security and his ability to run inside also dragged Cook down. Despite all that, this is a homerun hitter. JOE MIXON, RB, OKLAHOMA The story of Day Two will likely be when and if Mixon is drafted. On talent alone, he might be the best back in the draft a bigger version of McCaffrey. He also was suspended his entire freshman season for punching a female student at Oklahoma and breaking bones in her face. Mixon comes with baggage and built-in criticism for whichever team takes him. The talent, though, is elite. FORREST LAMP, OL, WESTERN KENTUCKY Only two offensive linemen went in the first round and none until pick 20. Scouts fell in love with Lamp at the Senior Bowl, but he doesn t have a prototypical tackle s body and that kept him out of the first round. He might be the most sound blocker in the class. CAM ROBINSON, OL, ALABAMA Robinson is sort of the flip side of Lamp. All the athleticism and ideal size, but his footwork gets sloppy and his play was inconsistent. He can dominate and those physical tools could lead to a long and productive career. ZACH CUNNINGHAM, LB, VANDERBILT Cunningham was a tacklemachine with good instincts and athleticism. He could be a steady, if not spectacular, threedown linebacker. Kevin King, CB, Washington Who doesn t like 6-foot-3 cornerbacks? (AP Photo/Jae C. Hong) Nolasco, Norris lead Angels to 2-1 win over Athletics ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) Ricky Nolasco had extra days between starts to work on mechanical issues and it paid off. He led the Los Angeles Angels to a 2-1 victory over the Oakland Athletics on Thursday night to earn the series sweep. Nolasco didn t go into details of the adjustments, but they sure worked for him, keeping the Athletics off balance. They were good, Nolasco said of the time to make mechanical adjustments. They were much-needed to get back on schedule. Go get them in Seattle. Nolasco (2-2) threw 5 2/3 innings, allowing one run and three hits. The Angels (12-12) have won four consecutive games and are back to.500 as they head to Texas. Nolasco s next start will be in Seattle. Just cleaning up some things on the front leg with my leg and overall mechanics, Nolasco said. Everything felt good. Bud Norris is settling into the closer s role for the Angels since injuries have left that job open. It s been a seamless transition. He pitched a scoreless ninth for his fourth save of the season and second in as many nights. In the sixth inning, Nolasco walked two batters and Yonder Alonso reached on an error to load the bases. Blake Parker relieved Nolasco and struck out Ryon Healy with the bases loaded to end the inning. The Angels, who scored eight runs in the previous game s win over the Athletics, scored two runs in the first inning. Mike Trout, who has an 11-game hitting streak, hit a two-out double, followed by a run-scoring single by Albert Pujols and an RBI double by C.J. Cron. Trout, the reigning AL MVP, has hit safely in 23 of 24 games this season. Norris, a former starter, is blossoming as a closer for now. Huston Street and Cam Bedrosian are both injured. And Norris looks very much like he has the makeup to pitch well in that role, something that s not easy to do. He s walking around like a closer, Angels manager Mike Scioscia said. He s filling the role and doing a great job. Oakland starter Kendall Graveman (2-1), who came off the disabled list after missing one start with a minor shoulder strain allowed two runs in six innings and scattered six hits. He struck out four and walked none. He also turned an unassisted double play, the first by an Oakland pitcher since Blue Moon Odom did it on July 11, He tagged Ben Revere in a rundown and flipped through the air to get Cliff Pennington at third. That s probably the best play I ve ever seen a pitcher make, hurdling over a defender to get the second out unassisted, A s manager Bob Melvin said. I didn t even know how to put that one down on the card. He pitched great. One pitch, really. A two-strike pitch to Trout. Strike or not. Two doubles. That s all they get off him. I thought he pitched really well. FROM PUCKS TO BASEBALLS The Edmonton Oilers are in town for their Western Conference semifinals series against the Ducks. The Oilers won Game 1 and on their off day before tomorrow s Game 2, star Connor McDavid and Patrick Maroon - a former Duck and friend of the Angels - attended batting practice. Maroon caught up with Mike Trout, and Albert Pujols signed baseballs for the contingent. You can see the Honda Center, the Ducks home arena, just behind left-center field at Angel Stadium. TRAINER S ROOM: Athletics: RHP John Axford (strained right shoulder) threw from 90 feet and could join the team on the upcoming road trip.... LHP Sean Manaea (left shoulder tightness) is expected to play catch in Texas on Friday. He left Wednesday s start after just 34 pitches in two innings. Angels: RHP Mike Morin (neck tightness) is expected to start throwing in a few days.... RHP Andrew Bailey (right shoulder inflammation) has resumed throwing.... RHP Huston Street (right lat strain) is throwing off a mound. UP NEXT: Oakland RHP Jharel Cotton (2-2, 4.76 ERA) will make his ninth career start against Houston on Friday night. He leads the AL in games started by a rookie (4) and innings pitched (22 2/3). LHP Tyler Skaggs (1-1, 4.44 ERA) got his first win of the season against Toronto in his last start, allowing two runs in seven innings. Skaggs, who is pitching his first full season since Tommy John surgery, had an extra day of rest before this start against Texas.

samoa news, Friday, April 28, 2017 Page B3 North Carolina s Mitch Trubisky reacts after being selected by the Chicago Bears during the first round of the 2017 NFL football draft, Thursday, April 27, 2017, in Philadelphia. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke) Bears trade up, take QB Mitch Trubisky with No. 2 pick LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Pace made a stunning and bold move to trade up for the quarterback he wanted. He caught just about everyone off guard, including Mitchell Trubisky. The Chicago Bears drafted their latest quarterback of the future in a shocker Thursday night, grabbing North Carolina s Trubisky with the No. 2 overall pick after trading up a spot with the San Francisco 49ers and surrendering three draft choices to do it. I think it shows that they believe in me, he said. And I believe in what Ryan Pace and Coach Fox are doing in Chicago, and I can t wait to be a part of it. There was some thought the Bears might wait a round or two before taking a quarterback after signing Mike Glennon last month to replace the departed Jay Cutler. That couldn t have been more wrong. The Cleveland Browns decided to grab Texas A&M defensive standout Myles Garrett rather than address their biggest need for a long-term quarterback. Pace decided he couldn t pass up the chance. The price for Trubisky was high, with San Francisco getting the Bears No. 3 pick, a third- and fourth-round choice this year plus a third-rounder next year. It was a surprising move, particularly since San Francisco general manager John Lynch was ready to take Stanford defensive lineman Solomon Thomas at No. 2 anyway. Kudos to the Bears, Lynch said. I give Ryan Pace and John Fox credit for making a courageous move and we re thrilled with what we got out of it. Pace said he couldn t afford to wait even one pick. Teams looking for a quarterback were calling him about the third overall choice so he knew they were also looking to move into the No. 2 spot. Lynch confirmed the 49ers had other offers. I didn t want to sit on our hands and have some team jump us or have it not work out, Pace said. When we were this close, within reach of a player that was all really valued, I didn t want to sit on our hands and risk not getting that player. The 6-foot-2, 222-pound Trubisky said had little contact with the Bears leading up to the draft. The Bears did see him at the combine and at his pro day. Pace, coach John Fox and several assistants also had a private workout with him in North Carolina last month. They put Trubisky through individual drills and had him drop back from under center to pass to receivers, a different skill for a shotgun quarterback. Trubisky made just 13 college starts, all in a breakout junior season last year. He set the single-season the school s single-season record for yards passing (3,748), touchdowns (30) and total offense (4,056) in He ranked fifth in the country with a 68.0 completion percentage while throwing just six interceptions. He also ran for five touchdowns last season, after backing up quarterback Marquise Williams as a freshman and sophomore. Even so, it was a surprising move for the Bears. And it showed just how serious they are about solidifying a traditionally weak position for the team over the years. When Ryan Pace in Chicago went up into 2 and took the quarterback, that surprised a lot of people, I think.... There were other positions that we thought they might be drafting, said Saints coach Sean Payton, who knows Pace from his time in New Orleans front office. The Bears finished last in the NFC North at 3-13 in their second season under Pace and coach John Fox. Years of shoddy drafting combined with a long list of injuries exposed a glaring lack of depth. It all added up to Chicago s lowest win total since the 1973 team went 3-11, the most losses since a 1-13 finish in 1969 and a busy offseason for a rebuilding team. The Bears dumped Cutler after eight seasons and signed Glennon, giving them some leeway to wait on a QB. But Pace jumped at the opportunity to take Trubisky, though he did say Glennon is the starter. For how long? No timelines on that, Pace said. Whether Trubisky is starting in Week 1 or in 2018, his development will go a long way toward defining Pace s tenure. The Bears are counting on him, with his arm strength and quickness, to lock down a position that has historically troubled the franchise. Going to come in and learn as much as I can from Mike and the other veterans on the team. I mean I m always going to compete and do my thing and push the guy in front of me and my teammates as well. When given my opportunity, I m looking forward to take full advantage of it. It s all about helping the Chicago Bears win and that s what I m looking forward to most. $80 Daily Rate *NEW* $120 Daily 2013 Hyundai Sonata Automatic (Red Car) 2015 Kia Sedona Automatic In The High Court of American Samoa HCDR No LEPISI TASILAVA NGLAM, Petitioner, v. (AP Photo/Matt Rourke) Bengals take receiver John Ross as running mate for AJ Green players to take speedy receiver John Ross from Washington. For the second time in three years, Cincinnati drafted a player in the first round who is coming off surgery. Ross set an NFL combine record by running a 4.22-second 40-yard dash, and then had surgery for a torn labrum. The Bengals expect him to be ready for the start of the season and ready to make an impact immediately. This guy s role kind of jumps out at you with his speed, offensive coordinator Ken Zampese said. The last time the Bengals chose a receiver with their first pick was 2011, when they took Green fourth overall. Their offense crumbled last season after Green severely pulled a hamstring and missed six full games and most of one other. The Bengals finished 6-9-1, missing out on the playoffs for the first time in six years. Now they ve got another receiver who can force defenses to guard against the long pass, something they ve wanted since receiver Marvin Jones left as a free agent following the 2015 season. It kind of balances the other side of the field, coach Marvin Lewis said. When you re playing against him, people feel his speed. Two years ago, they took Cedric Ogbuehi with their first overall pick even though he was recovering from reconstructive knee surgery. He missed most of his rookie season and struggled at right tackle last year. The Bengals plan to move him to left tackle and replace Andrew Whitworth. Cornerback William Jackson III missed his rookie season last year with a torn chest muscle. Ross tore the labrum in the fifth game last season but kept CINCINNATI (AP) The Bengals found a running mate for A.J. Matila at ext playing. He finished with 81 catches for 1,150 yards and 17 touchdowns. Setting the record for the 40-yard dash at the combine brought him additional notice. Ross had surgery on both knees earlier in his career. I think it just got people to realize exactly how fast I am, Ross said during a conference call. I definitely got more attention. He got the Bengals attention late in the draft process. They invited him to Paul Brown Stadium after his surgery, the last team to invite him to get to know the coaching staff. He felt they hit it off right away. I got that vibe when I was there, he said. I called my agent and told him how good I felt. I told him, Don t be surprised if the phone rings on draft day and it s the Bengals. The Bengals return their top three receivers from last season Green, wideout Brandon LaFell and slot receiver Tyler Boyd along with tight end Tyler Eifert. LaFell finished second in catches and yards to Green, and he signed a two-year deal after the season. You say, I can really see (Ross) fitting in with the guys we have, Zampese said. Cincinnati is still looking to upgrade a defense that had trouble getting pressure on the quarterback, especially in the first half of last season. The Bengals finished with their second-fewest sacks in the last eight years, and they slipped to a middle-of-the-pack defense overall. Lewis said there were several coveted defensive players left at the ninth pick because of how the round worked out, but Ross was too enticing. Lewis said no other team was interested in trading for the ninth spot.

samoa news, Friday, April 28, 2017 Page B5 Bills add picks and character in selecting LSU DB White ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) Bills rookie head coach Sean McDermott filled a need in Buffalo s backfield and added two valuable picks in overseeing his first NFL draft. In using the 27th pick to select LSU cornerback Tre Davious White on Thursday, McDermott also believes he addressed the issue of character he s been attempting to instill in what had been an undisciplined team in the three months since replacing Rex Ryan. Citing character as being part of our evaluation process, McDermott noted White s background as a high school valedictorian and team leader at LSU. Over the past two seasons, White wore No. 18, which is awarded to the Tigers player who best exemplifies the program on and off the field since There s a lot of unknowns in the draft, there s a lot of unknowns in life in general. And so you try to close that gap as much as much as you can, McDermott said. And certainly with the character in this case that Tre Davious White has, we felt good about that person off the field. White can also play. Listed at 5-foot-11 and 192 pounds, he was a three-plus-year starter who finished with six interceptions in 48 games. He showed a capability of playing both inside and outside positions, and had added versatility as a punt returner. White will be given an opportunity to compete for a starting job on a defense that lost starting cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who signed with AFC East rival New England in free agency, and also cut No. 3 cornerback Nickell Robey-Coleman. I feel 100 percent confident, White said, regarding making the jump to the NFL. And the Bills had such confidence in the 22-year-old White that they took the calculated risk of passing up a shot to select Ohio State cornerback Marshon Lattimore with the 10th pick and instead move down 17 spots in making a trade with the Kansas City Chiefs. In exchange, Buffalo acquired the Chiefs third-round pick, 91st overall, and their firstround pick next year. For McDermott, the trade addressed a short-term goal in allowing Buffalo to increase its number of selections to eight in this year s draft. And it filled a longer-term objective in providing the Bills two first-round picks next year, which could prove to be valuable assets. Buffalo could chose to either use both picks on drafting players or incorporate them into trade assets should the team elect to address other needs, including the team s most unsettled position of quarterback. Yeah, all the options that may be on the table, McDermott said. He said the Bills had preliminary talks with the Chiefs of a possible trade once the cornerback free-agent market began to dwindle. Kansas City expressed interest in moving up for a quarterback. Upon making the trade, the Chiefs drafted Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes. McDermott turned to his mentor, Chiefs coach Andy Reid, for the deal. A defensive specialist, McDermott spent his first 12 NFL seasons working his way up the coaching ranks with the Reid-coached Philadelphia Eagles. In Buffalo, the detailoriented 42-year-old McDermott is attempting to place his stamp of structure and discipline on a franchise that is in the midst of a 17-year playoff drought the longest active drought in North America s four major praofessional sports. By placing an emphasis of character in selecting White, the move was a departure from some more questionable picks the team has made in recent years. Defensive tackle Marcell Dareus has had several off the field issues, and missed the first four games of last season serving an NFL suspension for violating the league s substance abuse policy. The Bills also cut running back Karlos Williams last summer after he was also suspended by the NFL and reported to camp out of shape. An Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer And A Drug-Free Workplace RALPH D. RUSSO, AP College Football Writer The first round of the NFL draft had players from Temple and Western Michigan off the board before players from Alabama. And in a draft where none of the quarterbacks looked like locks to be picked in the first round, three were taken in the first 12 picks. The draft always provides surprises. As usual, some players were off the board earlier than expected while others had to wait longer than most of the draft forecasters expected. Three players who surged and three more who were picked but slipped during the first round of the NFL draft SURGE Corey Davis, wide receiver, Western Michigan to Tennessee at No. 5 For those who think the combine and pro day workouts are overrated, Davis is proof that film comes first. He didn t work out at the combine or pro day because of injuries, and the conventional wisdom was that would make Clemson s Mike Williams to first receiver off the board. Instead, the Titans grabbed Davis over Williams, who went two picks later to the Chargers. The only real question about the 6-foot-3 Davis is consistent quality of competition. John Ross, wide receiver, Washington to Cincinnati at No. 9. Ross was a lock to go in the first round after running a combine record 4.22-second 40-yard dash. Still, he is not the biggest guy at 5-11, 188. Plus, he had a serious knee injury in his college career. Ross seemed like more of a mid-first rounder than a top-10 pick, but the Bengals could not pass up on that speed. Patrick Mahomes II, quarterback, Texas Tech to Kansas City at No. 10. The Bears surprisingly traded up from No. 3 to No. 2 to take North Carolina quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, but he had long been speculated to be the first QB off the board. Then Kansas City made an even more surprising jump from 27 to 10 via a trade with the Bills to take Mahomes. The gun-slinging Mahomes has a ton of upside, but needs polish. When the college football season ended, no one would have guessed that Mahomes would be drafted before Deshaun Watson, who was taken two picks later by Houston. SLIP Reuben Foster, linebacker, Alabama to San Francisco at No. 31. Foster was touted as a top-10 pick, but he had a rough go of it during the postseason draft process. He left the combine early after getting into argument with a hospital worker. He was found to have a diluted urine sample at the combine, which counts as a failed drug test. And there were lingering concerns about a shoulder problem. The last one might have been most damaging. Early in the process, there was speculation San Francisco might take Foster at No. 2 overall. Instead, the 49ers were able to trade back into the first round and get him with the second-to-last pick of the night. Jonathan Allen, defensive lineman, Alabama to Washington at No. 17. Another Alabama player with a shoulder issue that likely cost him a few million dollars. Allen was in the discussion to push Myles Garrett to be No. 1 overall at the end of the college season. Instead, a deep talent pool and an early run on quarterbacks helped push Allen down the board much to the delight of the Redskins. O.J. Howard, tight end, Alabama to Tampa Bay at No. 19. Make it a hat trick for the Crimson Tide, though there were no injury red flags working against Howard. He was still the first tight end off the board and Bucs quarterback Jameis Winston gets a big new target at 6-foot-6, 255 pounds.

samoa news, Friday, April 28, 2017 Page B7 ATTENTION!! STARTING MAY 1ST ALL REGISTRAR NOTICES WILL BE $60 Stanford s Solomon Thomas poses after being selected by the San Francisco 49ers during the first round of the 2017 NFL football draft, Thursday, April 27, 2017, in Philadelphia. (AP Photo/Julio Cortez) 49ers get Solomon Thomas, extra picks in SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) John Lynch came out of his first draft as an NFL general manager with two of the top three players on San Francisco s board and a couple of extra picks to boot. The rookie general manager would have had a hard time scripting the day any better. He traded down one spot to No. 3 to get Stanford defensive lineman Solomon Thomas and then packaged one of the extra picks from that deal with his own second-rounder to get Alabama linebacker Reuben Foster at 31. We got two of our top three players, Lynch said. We re thrilled. We re ecstatic. We think these guys have traits that encompass what we want to be about as a football organization. The trading started when Chicago wanted to move up one spot to select quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. With other teams interested in that pick, the Niners were able to get extra picks in the third and fourth round this year and a 2018 third-rounder and still draft their second-highest rated player in Thomas. There were other people involved, Lynch said. The trade improved the last day because of that. Then when Foster started slipping possibly because of concerns about his injured shoulder and off-field character issues, San Francisco started making calls midway through the round to get an additional first-round pick. They were finally able to move from 34th to 31st by sending the fourth-round pick acquired from Chicago to Seattle and added the Butkus Award winner to their defense. Coach Kyle Shanahan said Fos- 1st round of draft ter s play jumped off the film every time he studied Alabama s defense. No matter who I was studying and watching, No. 10 was flying around passing everybody up, Shanahan said. No matter who I studied. I had a hard time not watching No. 10, which was Reuben. The way he plays, the way he hits, the way he runs, that s why you want him on your team. But Foster was hurt by a shoulder injury that he said should be fully healed by training camp, as well as off-field issues. Foster was kicked out of the combine over a confrontation with a hospital worker and had a diluted drug test sample, turning him from a projected top 10 pick to one that almost didn t make it in the first round. They gave me a chance, Foster said. I really appreciate the 49ers. I m ready to go hard and work hard and prove I m worthy of the spot. They re not going to regret it. The 49ers sent VP of football affairs Keena Turner and team pastor Earl Smith to Alabama to meet with Foster and came away convinced that he was not a character risk. There were no off-field questions surrounding Thomas, who was the third straight defensive lineman taken with San Francisco s top pick, following Arik Armstead in 2015 and DeForest Buckner last year. Lynch, as a Stanford graduate, is quite familiar with Thomas. He has spent time around the program in recent years and even took a class on decision-making with Thomas where they collaborated on a project. I was star struck the first day of class, Thomas said. I tried to cling on to him, learn from him. It was a really cool experience to be in class with him. Thomas said the two kept in touch since then and now he wants to make Lynch proud as his first draft pick ever as a general manager. Thomas has the versatility to play outside on the base defense where he is an elite run stopper and inside as a pass rusher in nickel situations. He had eight sacks and 15 tackles for loss last season at Stanford when he was named the top defensive lineman in the Pac-12. This advisory is in effect until further sampling and laboratory analyses indicate that Enterococci concentrations are within acceptable water quality standards. The presence of Enterococci in the water indicates contamination by human and/ or animal wastes. Swimming in water with high levels of Enterococci may cause stomach problems, skin rashes, and ear, eye, and wound infections. To reduce your risk: avoid swallowing beach water, be sure to rinse or towel off after a swim, and shower once at home. If you are ill, or think you may be ill, AS-EPA advises that you consult a physician before making any water contact in the beaches cited above. Parker Friday, April 28, 2017 Happy Birthday: Use your imagination and you will come up with ideas and solutions that will help you deal with any challenges you face this year, allowing you to put your plans in place. Strive to use past experience and common sense to reach your goals. Learn as you go and be open to suggestions. Express your needs and expectations. Your numbers are 8, 15, 22, 24, 38, 41, 44. ARIES (March 21-April 19): Gather facts, plan your strategy and take action. You can make headway by using what you have experienced in the past and applying it to turn your ideas into reality. Don t procrastinate. Romance is encouraged. TAURUS (April 20-May 20): You will have to look at situations realistically. Don t react based on assumptions. Study each situation you face and go to the best source for accurate information before you make a move that will have lasting effects. GEMINI (May 21-June 20): Your enthusiasm will be questioned. Make sure your plans are thorough and possible before you share them with someone. Don t be fooled by someone s interest or overly friendly nature when ulterior motives are likely. CANCER (June 21-July 22): It s lovely to dream, but don t lose sight of reality. Be careful when dealing with institutions or government agencies. It s best to go over your financial and personal documents carefully if you wish to avoid being penalized. LEO (July 23-Aug. 22): You ve got all the right moves, so don t stop when the going is good. Just because someone wants to interfere doesn t mean you have to oblige. Assess your goals and accomplish what you set out to do. Romance is highlighted. VIRGO (Aug. 23-Sept. 22): Confusion and anger will surface if someone you are close to isn t honest about feelings or future plans. Address concerns openly to avoid making matters worse. Alterations at home will be in your best interest. LIBRA (Sept. 23-Oct. 22): A day trip or checking out something that interests you should take top priority. Romance or getting together with someone you don t get to see enough will lead you to make changes that encourage spending more time together. SCORPIO (Oct. 23-Nov. 21): Trouble will brew at home and in your personal life if you haven t managed your money well. Go over your books and personal papers and make sure you aren t missing an opportunity that can help you out of a tight spot. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22-Dec. 21): Ask questions if you feel someone is being vague. Discuss the way you feel and what you want to see happen. The best way to bring about positive change is to alter what isn t working for you. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22-Jan. 19): Someone from your past will lead you astray. Don t believe everything you hear, or get involved with someone who is irresponsible. Use your insight and integrity to ensure that you do what s best for everyone. Address health issues promptly. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20-Feb. 18): Do something to enhance your appearance. Feeling good about the way you look and what you have to offer will put you in a good position when dealing with others. An opportunity to improve your standard of living looks promising. PISCES (Feb. 19-March 20): Emotions and frustration will mount. Don t share your secrets or let anyone take care of your financial, medical or legal matters. Protect yourself against hacking and credit card fraud. Don t let yourself be taken advantage of. 2 stars Birthday Baby: You are intellectual, resourceful and insightful. You are entertaining and imaginative. Dear Abby by Abigail Van Buren TEEN STRUGGLES AFTER HEROIN ADDICTION CLAIMS DAD S LIFE DEAR ABBY: I m 15. I lost my dad two months ago. I found him when I got out of the shower. He had overdosed on heroin. Heroin controlled Dad s life ever since I was little, but that never stopped me from being me. My family has had it pretty rough, but that never stopped me from being me, either. I can t process the thought of losing my dad completely. I m scared without him. The mental picture comes back to me randomly throughout the day. I can t take it anymore. I know he s at peace now, but I still feel like it s my fault that he s dead because I took a shower and wasn t with him. I feel like it should have been me, not him. He had just gotten out of jail a month before he died. I can t keep crying myself to sleep. I need a way to cope and right now I feel like I m at rock bottom and can t return. I just want to be normal like the kids I go to school with. Why can t I be a normal teen? -- ROCK BOTTOM TEEN DEAR ROCK BOTTOM: I am so sorry for what you have been going through. You ARE a normal teen, and in my opinion, you are much more resilient than you think you are. You have had a terrible shock, and in addition to the normal grieving process, you may be suffering from survivor guilt. Your father did NOT die because you took a shower. He died because he had a heroin addiction he couldn t conquer. It is very important that you talk with a grief counselor and possibly join a grief support group. If your family can t arrange counseling for you, please talk with a school counselor or your clergyperson. There is a light at the end of this dark tunnel, and you ll start seeing it once you get some professional help. DEAR ABBY: I ve been reading your column for years, but never thought I d have to write to you. This year my aunt hosted a family dinner and did a wonderful job -- everything was delicious. There was only one problem. She was upset (everyone at the table could see it and feel the tension) because I ate too much meat and she didn t have enough for leftovers. I did eat more than everyone else that night (doesn t happen often), but I say if the food is on the table, it s fair game. If you don t want people to eat it, don t serve it. I m asking for an official ruling, please. -- OVERATE IN BUFFALO DEAR OVERATE: A gracious host or hostess should not become upset if a guest eats the food that s presented. If the host or hostess doesn t want guests to polish off everything that has been prepared, the food should be plated in advance.
