1 Caldwell University 75 THE HONOR ROLL OF DONORS

2 Dear Friends, On behalf of our students, faculty, staff and the Sisters of Saint Dominic, thank you for your commitment to, and support of, Catholic Dominican higher education at Caldwell University. This past year, donors committed more than $2.7 million to the university, a 50% increase over the year before. In September 2014, we began a year-long celebration of Caldwell University s 75th anniversary. Throughout the past year, we ve paid tribute to Caldwell s history while, at the same time, focusing on the promising future that lies ahead. The founders of Caldwell College for Women dreamed of making it a jewel on the hill. The dream became a reality because of all those who came before us. Caldwell University continues to be that jewel today because of you the hardworking members of our university community and those who support us as alumni, friends and the wider community. Our anniversary year has been a time to reflect on some outstanding achievements. Our future will build on the success of our academic programming and outstanding student experiences. I invite you to read through this report and take note of the partners who have helped shape our journey. Our success is a direct result of their support, both financial and in other ways, and I am incredibly grateful. We re a strong institution on the verge of a very exciting future. Join us as we embark on another of academic excellence. Nancy H. Blattner, Ph.D., OPA President caldwell.edu THE HONOR ROLL OF DONORS 1

5 YEAR IN REVIEW COVERING THE PERIOD OF JULY 1, 2014 JUNE 30, 2015 JULY 2014 The transition to Caldwell University officially took place on July 1, The change in name was the culmination of a two-year process that involved every segment of the campus community and required a 550-page self-study report. AUGUST 2014 We welcomed the largest freshman class in Caldwell s history (371), and completed renovations to existing campus space that provided for more residential opportunities for our growing student population. This 12% increase from the previous record breaking year bucks national trends that see many enrollment numbers declining nationwide. SEPTEMBER 2014 On September 19, hundreds of people gathered in the Newman Center to celebrate Caldwell s 75th anniversary with an academic convocation and Mass. Father Paul Murray, O.P., a Dominican priest from Rome, officiated at Mass and was the keynote speaker at the convocation. The festivities continued on September 20 with Homecoming. OCTOBER 2014 A joint effort between the Jennings Library at Caldwell University, the Caldwell Public Library and the Sisters of St. Dominic of Caldwell resulted in The College on the Hill Exhibition which chronicled the 75 year history of the university. The opening reception at the town library featured a panel discussion regarding the importance of Caldwell University s founding and the relationship between the university, the Sisters and the township of Caldwell. NOVEMBER 2014 The Caldwell University offices of Alumni Affairs, Career Planning and the Business Division hosted an event designed to help students interact with alumni currently working in the field of accounting. The Student Speed Networking Event gave students direct access to these high profile alumni and within 24 hours students had lined up interviews with the companies where alumni are employed. DECEMBER 2014 For the first time in the 28 year history of the men s basketball program at Caldwell, the Cougars defeated an NCAA Division I opponent when they beat Binghamton University on December 8 in Binghamton, NY. Caldwell senior guard Kevin Walker scored the 1,000 point of his career in that win and joined only 15 others at Caldwell who have reached that milestone. JANUARY 2015 The university s Visceglia Gallery presented Haiti We Remember, an exhibition curated by a group of Haitian-born artists who were deeply affected by the earthquake that devastated their homeland in January Their powerful artwork confronted hardships and the unsettled aftermath of that event. More than 30 works were on display by established artists and the exhibition offered a compelling response to Haiti s ongoing predicament. FEBRUARY 2015 Caldwell University President Nancy H. Blattner received the 2015 Chief Executive Leadership Award from the Council for Advancement and Support of Education District II. CASE is a leading international association of education institutions and the award recognizes leaders who create vision and inspire others, establish a positive image of his/her institution s stature in the community, and show willingness to take risks that have greatly benefited the institution. MARCH 2015 Beth Fowler, 62, star of the Netflix original series Orange is the New Black, returned to campus in March to take part in the Veritas Lecture Series. The lecture series was commissioned in 2014 thanks, in part, to a gift from Kathleen Galop, Esq., 68, as a way to provide the Caldwell University community with an opportunity to engage with Veritas awardees, which include some of the university s most distinguished alumni. The Veritas Award was established to celebrate the professional excellence of alumni. APRIL 2015 Two outstanding members of the community were honored at the 40th annual Presidential Scholarship Gala on April 24. The event raised more than $100,000 which will directly support student scholarships. Anthony Calandra, of Calandra Enterprises, and Assemblyman Thomas P. Giblin were honored for their support of the university and for their commitment to their communities. Close to 300 guests enjoyed a wonderful evening with other Caldwell University benefactors. MAY 2015 Several alumni and friends joined President Blattner and other members of the Caldwell University community on a tour of Italy that celebrated the university s Catholic Dominican heritage. The 10 day trip included time in Rome and Siena, as well as excursions to Bologna and Florence. France is the destination of the next alumni and friends trip in May, For information, please contact Jenny Mundell, JUNE 2015 To close out the year-long celebration of the 75th anniversary, Dr. Blattner hosted the President s Society Reception at the Crystal Plaza in Livingston. The President s Society is a group of alumni and friends who make the university a priority in their annual giving plans. Membership in this group continues to grow at a steady pace and provides an important component to the university s financial stability. To learn more about becoming a member, contact Michael Bressman at or visit the university s website at caldwell.edu THE HONOR ROLL OF DONORS 4

President s Society Associates are marked with an * next to their names in this report. The offices of Financial Aid, Student Accounts and the Registrar were relocated to a state-of-the-art one-stop shop in Aquinas Hall, a newly integrated space designed to serve students more efficiently than ever before.
