3 INTRODUCTION In 1996, Mr. Sashwin Pillai embarked on a career in Architecture and Development, and thereafter completed a Honours Degree in Architecture at the prominent Oxford School of Architecture in the United Kingdom. Mr. Pilllai also completed an Urban Study Course entitled, Multiplicities at the Architectural Association in London. Mr. Pillai was immediately thereafter employed by the Charted Practice Architects (C.P.A.) in London, where he worked on 5 Residences and an Urban Housing Development especially focused within a Heritage context. Mr. Pillai thereafter moved on to an international practice, David Chipperfield Architects (D.C.A.). At D.C.A. his experience was vast, working on the following projects: Ansaldo: Citta delle Culture, Milano Museum of non-european cultures Projecte de la Ciutat de la Barcelona I L Hospitalet de Llobregat Barcelona Law Court Centre Trieste Waterfront Competition Kojun Building, Tokyo office tower Dolce & Gabbana, Genoa showroom/gallery Czech & Speake product design contract DCA offices, Bolsover House, London Palermo Exhibition exhibition of works La Biennale di Venezia 2002 exhibition of works Upon his return to South Africa in 2003, Mr. Pillai was appointed Director of Urban Architects where he worked on various flagship projects, including Ushaka Marine World, Suncoast Casino & Entertainment Complex, as well as various public sector Education Facilities and the Tourism Authority in K.Z.N. With a young entrepreneurial mind and spirit, today, Sashwin Pillai boasts a successful Architectural, Management and Development Consultancy with interests in various associated fields. 6 INTRODUCTION Africa Vision founded in 2003 by Sashwin Pillai, strives to be a vehicle that facilitates development in South Africa. Since inception, he has worked on various landmark projects both locally and internationally; which places Africa Vision at the cutting edge of industry.
