1 The Lucke Family Newsletter December 2016 Volume XXII, Number 4 Births Ace John Gucker was born on October 17, 2015 to David and Ashley Gucker. David is the son of Paul and Judy Gucker, grandson of Dorothy and Frank Gucker, great-grandson of #7 Charles. J-P s Aunt is named Cecilia. Cecilia s older sister, Sienna, was born on April 29 (St Catherine of Siena day) and that is how she got her name. Cecilia Rose Lucke was born on November 21, 2016 to Jean-Paul and Kathleen Lucke. Jean-Paul is the son of Paul and Helen Lucke, grandson of Clement and Madeline Lucke, great-grandson of #2 Frank. Cecilia Rose will be playing Baby Jesus in the school Christmas play this year. This is how Cecilia got her name. She was born on November 21 and on the 22nd (St Cecilia Day) she was sent to Children's Hospital in Philadelphia to be checked out. It seems she spit up some green bile which could mean a blockage. Jean-Paul prayed to St Cecilia for 3 hours and she checked out fine. And that is how the family decided that she had to be named Cecilia instead of the original name they had picked out. Patricia Anne Bond McInerny I was born in New Rochelle, moved to Levittown and then to West Babylon. I attended West Babylon High School and went to Adelphi Suffolk College where I got my BA in Education. I went to Adelphi University for my Masters degree. I taught in Islip School District for 3 years before making my BIG move to California in I substitute taught for 3 years but not being able to get a contract job I started working retail at Broadway Department Stores, then on to Buffums Department Store. Finally New York and California were able to agree on my teaching credits and I was able to begin clearing my credentials to work full time. In the meantime I met and married Jim McInerny and had a son, Scott. We moved to Temecula in 1992, settled in and got a divorce. I was able to teach full-time by then and was hired by Elsinore School District where I have been for 15 years now, teaching 5th and now 2nd grade. I love to read historical and Christian fiction, walk along the lovely walking trails in my area, visiting the beach and to travel. I have been to New Zealand three times, exploring from the north tip at Cape Reinga to the end of the south island at Invercargil. I love God s handiwork on these islands. The scenery is just breathtaking and the people from around the world are a delight to talk with and share stories with. I came home from my first trip there and was baptized 8/29/06, knowing God s glory and majesty. I love spending time with my cousins and family whenever we can get together. My son, Scott, works as a restaurant manager in San Diego and we get together as often as schedules permit. Thank goodness for texting! I will continue to work as long as possible to be able to finance more travel adventures. Page 4
5 Memories of Dad Joe in US Army Joe and Tina Bud (Joe) attended Pelham High School graduating in He worked as a lifeguard at the Shore Club in Larchmont. This is where he met Peggy Gaiser and they were wed on January 12, 1944 while he was in the Army. During the war he was sent to France with the 11th Calvary. He was in the supply department and fortunately never saw the front lines. He was held over there because too many men in his division had been killed and there was no unit to return home with. He was there for two years. On his return home, he and Peggy lived with his parents for a while in Pelham. In 1947, Patty was born at New Rochelle Hospital. A. short while later they moved to a rental house on Shadow Lane in Levittown, where Bud worked for Levitt. That was followed by their first purchased home on Cypress Lane in Westbury. They added a second story to that house and Patty can remember a tiny black and white television built in to the staircase. In 1950, Barbara was born at Amityville Hospital. In December of that year they moved to 20 Abbott Street in West Babylon, where Susan was born in In 1951, Bud started work with the Long Island Water Authority, later becoming the Suffolk County Water Authority, from which he retired after 36 years. He and Peggy were among the people who helped to found the Long Island Yacht Club in Babylon. In 1961, Joe and Peggy were divorced. In 1969, Joe married Tina Malchusky and lived in Bay Shore. He took up golf but even though he wasn't "championship" caliber, he took the game very seriously and played as often as he could fit it into his work schedule. He even managed a hole-inone once in his lifetime. Joe was very fond of sweets, especially milk and cookies and ice cream. On the other hand he was pretty 'health conscious' and worked out regularly at a local spa. He loved to swim laps at the pool and truly enjoyed his swim time in the ocean. He went on diets about two Page 5
6 weeks prior to each scheduled doctor's checkup. Joe was also an avid reader. He loved going through his Time magazine and National Geographic cover to cover every month. Joe loved to travel and eventually bought a Holiday Rambler Motor Coach. He and Tina made several trips to Florida and later, Joe traveled to California to see two of his daughters (Patty & Barbara). Joe and Tina separated n Joe took up semi-permanent residence n his daughter, Susan's, driveway in his Motor Coach. He enjoyed traveling around the country, meeting new people and visiting long-time friends. He had almost completed filling in his map of the US. Then he suffered a stroke. In March, 1998, Joe took an 'assisted living' residence in Hemet, California near his brother, Kenny, and daughter, Patty, in Temecula.
