With a good turn out the best for a number of years close on 220 runners set out plus 11 in The Junior Race. Phil Sanderson was his usual explosive and determined self setting off at a lick. He soon established a short lead being chased by three of his club colleagues. At the end of the first climb he had 30 secs. lead, by Captain Cook's this amounted to 1 minute 20 secs. At Roseberry Topping his main pursuer was Gary Jones who managed to exit Roseberry common in the wrong direction heading towards Hanging Stone. He did however retrieve the situation a little and Phil perhaps unnecessarily was looking over his shoulder at Highcliff. Phil finished 2mins 47 secs ahead with Gary second then Charlie Stead and Lee Bennett all of NFR a comprehensive team win. In the women's event Katie Rawnsley and Kay Neesam had a good battle to Roseberry. At Captain cook's Monument Katie had just a few seconds lead over Kay with Shelli Gordon just 30 seconds away. At Roseberry Katie had a few more seconds lead but pulled away on the Highcliff climb to finish just over a minute ahead of Kay with Shelli in third.. A fabulous win for Katie. Kay and Shelli nevertheless anchored their team home in the team competition with Kath Aspin the third counter. Thanks to all who have supported the Winter Series.
