8 YEAR IN REVIEW Northwest Kiwanian of the Year: Quin Lee -- Throughout this past year, he consistently spent about 4 hrs/week producing the newsletter that is the envy of the district. But beyond that, he worked tirelessly on behalf of our club. He was present at every major activity, often donating extra services like prepping the grill for PBS Kids in the Park and setting up the electrical at Trader s Point. Bob Chapman helped organize and staff a Neighborhood Forum at the Pike Performing Arts Center in December 2007 featuring Mayor Bart Peterson. Members got their culture by listening to Simon Crookall of the Indianapolis Symphony on November 8 and Don Steffy of the Indianapolis Children s Choir on November 29. Founding member Linton Cox passed away 10/13/ /5/2014 8

12 YEAR IN REVIEW Kiwanian of the Year: Ray Mitchell, charter member and past president of our club. Bob Dearing passed away suddenly at age 74. Bob had been president of his Kiwanis Club in Wisconsin before moving back to Indy. He was often called Bulldog Bob because he watched after the Butler bulldog while a student living in the Sigma Chi house on the Butler campus. He retired in 1989 as VP for First Indiana Bank where he was employed for 32 years. Our club held a Volunteer Appreciate Day at the Glick Center of 71st St. Ray Mitchell reported The folks I know who attended all had positive things to say and I think we will get at least three more volunteers signed up for Special Olympics as well as Traders Point. Jason Farris spoke to the club about the Fairbanks Drug and Alcohol Addictions Treatment Center. Members helped St. Vincent New Hope with a Halloween party held at St. Luke s United Methodist Church. 10/5/

16 YEAR IN REVIEW Meetings at O Charley s. A Wiki space was created on the www. February 18, 2010 was Charter Night for the Robin Run Golden K Dennis Escol, O.D. died 4/23/2010. Dr. Escol practiced optometry in Indy from 1959 to 2007 when he retired and moved to Broomfield, CO. Speakers during the year included Joe Gentry (The Butler Way : A Philosophy that guides the Student-Athletes at Butler University) and SSGT Tien Do (Boots on the Ground in Iraq: Indiana National Guard) Tom Hornak was recognized as Kiwanian of the Year. Megan Shuman received the Carroll Award. Jeff Vessely retired from the IUPUI School of Physical Education faculty. The club attained Distinguished Club status with Kiwanis International. 10/5/

20 YEAR IN REVIEW Meetings at O Charley s We were one of KI s Distinguished Clubs! Tre Sanders of the Pike High School Key Club was elected governor of the Indiana District of Key Club. AND, Tre earned Distinguished Governor status from Key Club International! We are so proud of this young man! Members got educated about economics by speakers Fritz Kaufman of Cassidy Turley who updated us on the commercial real estate market in Indy and Tim Berry, State Auditor, who filled us in on the state of the state s budget at year s end. Fore! Marc Siegel reminded everyone that our initial First Tee event is July 19. Essentially, we serve as chaperones for the groups of young children from Glick Center who are participating in the program. The event takes place at the South Grove Golf Course. 29 Acting Presidents Due to a vacancy in the president elect position, three past presidents, Jeff Gambaccini, Jeff Vessely and Rick Brown, stepped forward to each provide four months of leadership. Then the next incoming president, Laura Noblitt, was asked to start her term early, which she did on August 1. Laura referred to the quartet of leaders as three dudes and a chick! 10/5/
