2 «ON ANAM?» (WHERE ARE WE GOING?) Dates: Place: Floor 0 Es Baluard Museu d Art Modern i Contemporani de Palma presents the exhibition "On anam?" (Where are we going?), a show curated by Sonia Becce, who proposes a collective reflection on the borders, migrations and identities and closes the trilogy of exhibitions on the Mediterranean context initiated by the museum in The first exhibition of the trilogy was "La Mer au Milieu des Terres / Mare Medi Terraneum", an exhibition curated by Cécile Bourne-Farrell. The following year, in 2016, "Waste Lands", with the curator Piedad Solans. And this year 2017 presents the project developed by the curator Sonia Becce, who has carried, from works of a marked conceptual nature, new significations and questions about the displacements. Becce, a great connoisseur of the work of Félix González-Torres, whose proposals influenced several generations of artists, has investigated these issues to give rise to this exhibition device presented under the title "Where are we going?". Based on the work of national and international artists such as Ergin Çavuşoğlu, Félix González-Torres, Carmela Gross, Núria Güell, Paulo Nazareth and Walid Raad-The Atlas Group, "On Anam?" proposes a series of questions about a Mediterranean immersed in unsolved and individual contradictions. Political and social transformations that represent a change of global sign and question the idea of border, alterations of the identity models, as well as the management of the conflicts of a present continuous marked by migration and diaspora. The inauguration is on November 9 (20pm), and can be seen from November 10, 2017 to April 1, 2018 at the Plant 0 of Es Baluard.

3 Text by the curator Sonia Becce One may think of human beings as subject to frontiers, since right from birth they are driven to cross them either for their own pleasure, because they are forced to by nature or pressured by diverse situations. Birth is a great inaugural act that transcends the physical and symbolic barrier between dependency and selfsufficiency, an act by which one abandons the stability of a homeostatic atmosphere for the vicissitudes of a world that has everything except equilibrium. Later on in life, another limit is transposed over and over that of the home. The door that opens and closes behind you, leaving your personal universe behind you, with the safety of your own things, the familiar, the private, to give way to the unpredictable meeting of other people, other worlds, the political and the public. The sentence Where are we going? may refer to the question we repeat, as citizens, when faced with the misgivings caused by the political decisions that affect us or - another possibility - to what, alarmed by the urgent climatic catastrophe we are obviously responsible for, we ask ourselves, shattered, regarding the future of the planet, or we could imagine that the question is the one asked by an individual, a group who have met up by chance or a family, when they start to conceive of flight, escape, leaving the places where they belong, urged on by wars, social violence, economic unrest or in search of a better destiny. For a long time now the world has witnessed migratory movements between countries where life is worth little or nothing to others where one can at least imagine that existence has a certain degree of dignity. The desperate attempts to reach other territories, to cross that imaginary limit imposed by geopolitics, causes thousands and thousands of deaths, a terrifying scenario witnessed every day from the safe coasts of first-world countries. The works included in the exhibition deal with questioning the identity and methods of recognition of the individual, question the scopes of the country and state as custodians of personal freedoms, delve into fictional or real documents as testimonies of wars in different latitudes or bear witness to solitary or group migrant traffic as a tool of self-knowledge or a last hope. This exhibition proposes a polyphonic conversation between videos, installations, photographs and documents, belonging to artists with extremely diverse origins. Ergin Çavuşoğlu (Bulgaria, 1968), Félix González-Torres (Cuba,1957-United States,1996), Carmela Gross (Brazil, 1946), Paulo Nazareth (Brazil, 1977), Núria Güell (Spain, 1981) and Walid Raad-The Atlas Group (Lebanon, 1967), activate an imaginary dialogue and call for discernment of the reasons why individuals move, struggle or risk everything even their lives and those of their loved ones for ideals, fatalities or simply out of desperation.

4 Sonia Becce Independent Curator based in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Since 2007 she has been a member of the Advisory Committee for CIFO (Cisneros Fontanals Art Foundation, Miami, Florida) and since 2015 she is a Curatorial Advisor of Space Collection (Sayago Pardon), Fitch, California. She has recently served as curator of Argentina Guest of Honor Country Arco 2017, Madrid. She organized the Educational, Multidisciplinary Projects and the Exhibition Program being a curator for several exhibitions in different institutions in Madrid: Ultramar at Thyssen Museum, La Wagner and L Officina della Resurrezione at Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, Video Program at Fundació La Caixa, Under de sí, Matadero, En el ejercicio de las cosas (co-curated with Mariano Mayer) at Biblioteca Nacional de España, Casa de América, Museo Cerralbo, Casa Museo Lope de Vega, Casa de Vacas, Conde Duque and Tabacalera. In 2015 she was the curator of Alejandra Seeber: Autoamerican and Rosell Meseguer: OVNI Archive. In the same year she was part of the international jury for The Faena Prize for the Arts. She served as President of the Gallery Selection Committee and jury of the Selection Committee of Cabinet Section of arteba 14 and 15. In 2013, she curated the exhibitions of the Russian artists «AES+F: The Liminal Space Trilogy» and «Eduardo Navarro: Mercosur Legal Study III» at Faena Art Center. During the same year, she curated the project Ensayo de situación II: «Soy un pedazo de atmósfera», at River Plate football stadium in Buenos Aires, organized by Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. In 2012, she was member of the Curatorial Committee at ARCO`12 s «Solo Projects» in Madrid. Among other projects, she has been curator of «smart», Freedom Tower, Miami Dade College, Felix Gonzalez-Torres: «Somewhere/Nowhere», Museo Universitario de Arte Contemporáneo MUAC, Mexico City, and MALBA-Colección Costantini, Buenos Aires; and Co-Curator of the retrospective exhibition «Guillermo Kuitca» at the Museo Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in Madrid and in MALBA-Colección Costantini, in Buenos Aires. She has also been the curator of several exhibitions of Latinamerican artists in Argentina and abroad. She has coordinated the editions of the Kuitca s Sudio Programme for young artists since 1991 and has been a close collaborator of the artist Guillermo Kuitca since 1989.
