2 (K1373) Eugene Buchanan Architectural Records Page 2 Historical Note: Little historical evidence for Eugene Buchanan or his architectural firm, Buchanan Architects and Associates, Chartered can be found. It appears the firm operated primarily in Kansas and Missouri with a concentration in the Kansas City area from the 1960s to the late 1990s. Arrangement: The collection has been arranged into the following two series, and the items within the series have been arranged alphabetically: Oversize Architectural Drawings Scope and Content Note: Oversize This series contains materials related to the Convention Center and the Huron Park and Cemetery, both of which are located in Kansas City, Kansas. Items within this series include a carpet design and a negative floor plan for the Convention Center, both are undated. Also, there are three Huron Cemetery Grave Marker Locations booklets which include a loose draft copy, a revised bound copy, and a finished copy. All three booklets are undated. Other items include a sketch of the master plan for Huron Park, dated 1975, and a sketch of the master plan and entrance for Huron Place, both of which are undated. Architectural Drawings This series consists of 76 sets of architectural drawings drafted in 1911, 1960, 1962, and between 1971 and The bulk of the drawings were drafted between the latter dates. There are several examples of commercial buildings, governmental buildings, medical buildings, primary and secondary educational institutions, recreational facilities and parks, a museum, three fire stations, and three residences. These buildings were built in Kansas and Missouri and were primarily designed and constructed by Buchanan Architects and Associates, Chartered. In addition to Buchanan Architects, architects also included in this collection are John W. McKecknie, William E. Behrman, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Note that designers C. Shaw and J. P. Nathaway along with the engineering firms of Ivan L. Roenigk and Theodore B. Bredson, Tuttle, Ayers, and Woodward, and Riggs Engineering Services were consulted on several drawings. Of interest, is a photocopied set of drawings of an addition to the home of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Adler designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright and located in Kansas City, Missouri, drawings associated with the Conventional Center located in Kansas City, Kansas, and the Toy and Miniature Museum located in Kansas City, Missouri.
