1 Civil Society: Reactions to the Holocaust This unique conference will focus on themes of civil courage and civil society at the time of Holocaust. The floor is yours: The conference will largely be held in the form of dialogues and debates involving Danish as well as other Nordic and international scholars and experts leading in the field. Among the speakers: Internationally leading researchers including Richard Breitman (USA), Ulrich Herbert (Germany), David Cesarani (UK), Irene Levine (Norway), Ronald Leopold (Holland), Konstanty Gebert (Poland), Sofie Lene Bak and Herbert Pundik (Denmark), Annette Wieviorka (France), Karin Kvist Geverts (Sweden), Oula Silvennoinen (Finland), Anthony Giorgieff (Bulgaria), Manfred Nowak (Austria). Excursion: The conference will include an excursion to the fishing village Gilleleje from where many Danish Jews fled to Sweden while others were arrested and deported to Theresienstadt. Special commemoration evening: At the conclusion of the conference, all participants will be invited to a special performance at the Royal Theatre in Copenhagen in the presence of Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II. The Danish Prime Minister, Helle Thorning Schmidt will give an opening speech. Participants: Academics and students of human rights, Holocaust and genocide studies, members of the international network Humanity In Action, as well as others with a special interest in Holocaust history. Venue: The two-day conference with 150 participants will be held at the international conference center Vilvorde, just outside Copenhagen City Centre. Participation: Thanks to generous support from a number of foundations and benefactors, participation - including all meals, excursion to Gilleleje and admission to the performance at the Royal Theatre - will be only 800 DKK. Students 400 DKK. Overnight 900 DKK per night (in single bedrooms).
