3 By KRISTEN ALEBAKIS CONGRATULATIONS to the nine players who been picked in the initial 47-man Vic Metro squad. Braden Ferrari, Tim Jenkins, Matt Dean, Tim Quick, Jase Perkins, Josh Bench, Brian Graham, Murray Boyd and Daniel Castellano were all named in the squad. Their impressive efforts in the WRFL s win against Ballarat didn t go unnoticed with AFL Victoria naming the nine players in the squad. It is a fantastic effort to see a large group of WRFL players picked. Over the next four weeks, coach Brian Royal, will cut the team down to just 23, hopefully there will be a strong contingent of WRFL players in the final team. It is an honour to pull on the Big V, and I am sure any of these WRFL players who get the chance to pull on that guernsey will represent our league and the team proudly. There is also strong western flavour to the Vic Metro side. Coach Brian Royal is also a man from the west, he is in the Footscray Hall of Fame and is a member of the Footscray-Western Bulldogs Team of the Century. Brett Jacobs, who was an assistant coach of the WRFL s senior Interleague side this year, has also been named as an assistant coach in the representative side, which is great to see. Some of the league s future stars will go head-to-head with some of the best junior talent in Melbourne. Playing Interleague is a fantastic experience and even if the team s don t get the results on the scoreboard being involved in this initiative is a great achievement. For more on Junior Interleague, turn to Page 5. Finally, this Queen s Birthday weekend is a special one for the Cure for MND Foundation, with their campaign the Big Freeze 2 happening on Monday before the annual Collingwood and Melbourne clash. MND is a terrible disease that affects about 2000 people in this country. It is a disease without a cure and if you can donate just a little to the Foundation, that money will go a long way to help find a cure. Football personality Neale Daniher, who was diagnosed with MND in 2013, has been a beacon of hope for all those currently suffering. His story and ability to continue to fight and raise of MND has been incredible to watch. His determination and want to live his life to the fullest each day has inspired me and many other Australian s. I have seen this disease affect someone close to me, so I strongly encourage you to throw your support behind the Cure for MND Foundation and either donate or buy a beanie at the Freeze MND website. 5 WRFL NEWS WRFL STARS NAMED IN VIC METRO SQUAD By KRISTEN ALEBAKIS NINE of the Western Region Football League s finest players have been named in the Vic Metro s initial 47-man squad, which will go headto-head with Victoria Country next month. Deer Park duo Jase Perkins and Tim Quick have been picked alongside Albion s Josh Bench, Sunshine s Daniel Castellano, Wyndhamvale s Brian Graham and Hoppers Crossing young gun Braden Ferrari. WRFL Senior Interleague captain and Spotswood star Murray Boyd, and Barry Priest medal winners from St Albans and Werribee Districts, Tim Jenkins and Matt Dean were also picked. Their selection comes off the back of their impressive performance in the WRFL s thrilling three-point win against country rivals Ballarat at Whitten Oval last month. Dean, was one of a host of players to standout during the Community Championships, he claimed the WRFL s best on ground medal for his efforts on the day. The 47-man Vic Metro squad includes players from across metropolitan Melbourne, with the Eastern Football League leading the way with 12 players named. The WRFL, Essendon District Football League and Northern Football League each have nine representatives, while the Southern Football League has eight. The Vic Metro side will be coached by Footscray Hall of Fame inductee Brian Royal. The WRFL s Brett Jacobs will again be involved with the team in 2016, he will be an assistant coach. He was a part of Vic Metro big 84-point win against AFL Queensland last year. I had a great experience last year, Jacobs said. I was working with some sensational coaches, none better than Brian Royal, who will coach the team this year. He has been involved at the elite level of football for a long time. Also to work alongside guys like Jason Heatley and Sean Millane, who are quality coaches and quality people, is great. Jacobs said it was great to see so many players from the west get picked in the squad. All the boys who played in the Vic Metro team last year, played really well and the same goes for the previous year, he said. The WRFL has always been well represented and hopefully a high number of the selected players make the final cut and play. Jacobs said the side will now take part in a four week training program to prepare for the match, with the final team of 23 to be named in the days leading up to the match. The Vic Metro versus Victoria Country match will be played on July 10. The venue will be announced in coming weeks. 7 WRFL NEWS JUNIOR INTERLEAGUE OVER LONG WEEKEND By KRISTEN ALEBAKIS ROUND 2 and 3 of the 2016 AFL Victoria Metro Junior Championships will take place over the Queen s Birthday long weekend. Some of the WRFL s rising stars will go head-to-head with the best youngsters from across metropolitan Melbourne today and Monday. The aim of the championships is to give players the chance to test their skills and get experience playing footy at a higher level than their usual club level football. This year, the WRFL has eight representative teams, an Under-16 team, two Under-15, two Under-14, two Under-13 and a combined Youth Girls team with the Essendon District Football League. As a result of last year s competition, the WRFL was promoted to Division 1 of the competition and will take on Yarra Junior Football League, the South Metro Junior Football League and the Eastern Football League. Round 1 kicked off on June 1, with games played under lights. Despite their best efforts all of the WRFL s teams suffered defeats in the opening round. To see all the teams, fixtures and results from Round 1 and also from the Queen s Birthday long weekend, visit the WRFL website. Head to the WRFL website or Facebook page to see highlights and interviews from the first round of competition. FREEZE THE MOTOR NEURONE BEAST ALL WRFL clubs, supporters, officials and players have been encouraged to get behind the Big Freeze 2 campaign and to raise vital funds to help find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease. 8 WRFL NEWS PLENTY HAPPENING AT WERRIBEE FC JUNE is a very big month for the Werribee Football Club on and off the field. On field, the club will host three home games which began last weekend against Collingwood. Unfortunately, the Tigers went down to the Magpies in a close fought game. Tomorrow, Werribee heads to Punt Road to take on the Richmond Tigers before returning to Avalon Airport Oval on Saturday June 18, for a clash with Essendon. This game will be telecast by Channel 7 from 2pm. To finish the month, Werribee hosts Coburg on Saturday June 25. This is the annual Ladies High Tea function organised by the Werribee Women s Football Circle. This year the morning has a Parisian Theme and will feature Rebecca Maddern from The Footy Show as guest speaker. Off the field is very busy as well. While the Chirnside Park redevelopment is set to start its major activity in October, some provisional work has already begun on the $11.75 million dollar project. Werribee CEO Mark Penaluna got a firsthand look last week at some initial trenches that have been started at Avalon Airport Oval. The club took possession of an impressive new vehicle during the week thanks to Morris Financial, as part of its website sponsorship agreement with the club. The transit van will make life a lot easier and more comfortable for several members of our football department. The club travels a lot of kilometers from Avalon Airport Oval to grounds as far away as Casey, Geelong, Ballarat and Frankston. Werribee is always active in the City of Wyndham through the hard work of the Community Development unit of the club, headed by Chris Gallagher. The Werribee Football Club has recently launched a new initiative called the Werribee Football Club Diversity Squad. Picture: SUPPLIED 6

9 WRFL NEWS The club has recently launched a new initiative called the Werribee Football Club Diversity Squad. More details will be available in coming weeks as the program gets into full swing. This year has seen the WRFL and Werribee consolidate their relationship with the VFL Tigers, becoming the WRFL s Multicultural Diversity partner. The aim of this new relationship is to promote the game of Australian Rules in the western suburbs. Werribee will continue its multifaceted community programs in schools and community groups. As well as assisting existing Auskick Centres, the club will create a new multicultural Auskick Centre to run out of Avalon Airport Oval. The Werribee Football Club and the WRFL believe that our sport can play an important role in breaking down social barriers and helping people transition into the community. Werribee FC s Auskick Centre at Avalon Airport Oval. Picture: SUPPLIED Whether they become players, volunteers or supporters of the game is not important. What is important is the social connection that can be made and shared through our great game and the people involved in it. 12 DIVISION 1 ROUND WRAP LIONS FAVOURITES, BUT CONTENDERS ARE COMING By KEVIN HILLIER THIS week we reach the half-way mark of the season and what an amazing season it has already been. Deer Park were pre-season favourites to wipe the floor with the rest of the competition, and win its fourth flag in a row in little more than a canter, according to many. That is certainly not the case, as they have already lost two games which suddenly makes them human and vulnerable. The Lions record over the past three years means they deserve to be favourites, but the contenders are coming, and they deserve to be respected and validated. Top of the ladder Hoppers Crossing has the bye this week, and with a two game buffer head into the second half of the season in excellent form and in good shape. The radio game this week on 88.9 WYN Fm should be a beauty between third and fourth on the ladder- Werribee Districts v Spotswood. Neither side has been able to string more than two wins together. They have both been inconsistent and have lost games they would have expected to win. That makes this game almost an eight pointer for both sides. Spotswood won a tough one last week by just two points, while Werribee fell away in the last quarter against Hoppers. I think the Woodsmen might be in the better form and that will get them the points. Deer Park have some injury concerns to some of their most important players, and also the headache of structuring their forward line to get the best output. Jase Perkins leads the Andrew Gibson medal chase and is a proven match winner. If Brendan Fevola is available this week, does Perkins make way for the former AFL star, who has only kicked 16 for the year which includes his 10 in Round 2. St. Albans have to win to keep its finals hopes alive so they will be desperate. They will need more than desperation to get them home, and I am not sure they can go four quarters against the reigning premiers. Albion have set themselves for a make or break month of games in June. They nearly had the perfect start last week, but came up two points shy. They play their home ground very well and will need Bench, Finco, Kelm and Taylor to again lead from the front to get over Altona. The Vikings won a slog against Sunshine last week, and while it wasn t pretty it was effective. I think the Cats can get up in this game. Sunshine face Wyndhamvale in a danger game for the Kangaroos. If the Kangaroos are to figure in the finals they have to dispose of Wyndhamvale. I question Sunshine s ability to kick goals which they will have to do against the top sides. If they underestimate the Falcons they will pay the price. Given they have more to play for, I expect the Kangaroos to win, but not by a great margin. 13 DIVISION 1 ROUND WRAP CATS WIN NAIL-BITTER AGAINST WOODSMEN By CONNOR PAIN CONSTANT rain and the Werribee Districts was not enough to stop Hoppers Crossing from recording a (118) to 8.4. (52) victory, its seventh of the season, and maintain its position on top of the ladder. The Warriors jumped its opponents in the opening term despite the poor weather, kicking five unanswered goals which given the conditions at the start of the match could have been enough to secure the win. Hoppers kicked on in the second and added another five majors, holding a strong 53-point lead at the main break. Its constant forward pressure at times appeared too much for the Districts, who were competing with both the rain and Hoppers unrelenting attack. The second half was much of the same as the home side bagged another seven goals to six, bringing the final margin to 66-points. The Districts will look to bounce back from its loss as they face Spotswood while Hoppers have the week off. Albion was able to narrowly hold on for its second win of the season, beating Spotswood by one point. The Woodsmen were the better of the two sides in the first half, holding the lead at both breaks. Albion controlled the game in the second half, booting seven goals to four to help the Cats run out (72) to (71) winners. Only scoring three points in the second quarter and eight behinds in the final term was a key reason for Spotswood s loss, as it was unable to maintain its firsthalf lead over the four quarters. Albion s Thomas Addison led his side with four goals, in a win that sees his side jump the Woodsmen into seventh place. Albion will next face Altona with Spotswood going up against Wyndhamvale. In the round s lowest scoring game, Altona scraped over the line in a tough win against Sunshine, 5.3. (33) to 3.4. (22). The Vikings led at each break and used a stout defence throughout to hold the Kangaroos to just three goals for the entire match. Matthew Davis booted three goals for the home side, bringing his tally to seven in his past three matches. Deer Park held Wyndhamvale scoreless and piled on the goals, winning (177) to 0.0. (0). Kevin Klix and Dean Stankovic both kicked six goals in this season s first shutout win. The large win keeps the Lions in the top four ahead of its clash with St. Albans. 24 DIVISION 2 ROUND WRAP SENIORS REVENGE IS SWEET FOR NORTH FOOTSCRAY ROUND 10 began in fierce fashion with a nailbiting nine point finish between North Footscray and Caroline Springs, with the Devils exacting revenge on their early season loss to the Lakers at Town Centre Oval. The Devils started the game strongly, keeping the home side goalless in the opening quarter, while they booted three of their own. It was a tough slog in the second quarter, but the game managed to open up in the second half. Caroline Springs kicked five goals in the final term, but it wasn t enough, with the Devils scoring their seventh win of the season and top spot on the Division 2 Senior Ladder. In other matches, West Footscray scored its first win of the season, defeating Manor Lakes at Shorten Reserve. It has been year for the Roosters, who at times struggled to field both a senior and reserves sides, but Saturday s result proved all of the club s hard work and dedication to continue on in 2016 was worth it. Only one point separated West Footscray and Manor Lakes at the first break, but it was one way traffic for the rest of the game. The home side kicked 11 goals to six, to win the match by 37-points. The Roosters had 31 scoring shots to 14 and probably should have won by more, but it was a day to celebrate for West Footscray, whose reserves side also scored a memorable win against the Storm. A post on the club s Facebook page by coach Shane Lucas said Saturday s result was a turning point for the club, in what has been a difficult eight months for West Footscray. Although it was with pride I watched 46 men wear the Red and White yesterday and sing our great song, he said. This message is for the committee men/women and all those helpers who have gone above and beyond and sacrificed so many hours to get this club back on its feet. I was more proud of our achievements yesterday when seeing the smiles and joy those two wins brought to these same people and knowing that their hard work hasn t been in vain! In the final match of the round, the Yarraville Seddon Eagles came from behind in the final quarter to defeat Glen Orden by 25-points. The Eagles were 14-points down at the three quarter time break and looked down and out, but kicked six goals in the final term to win the match. 25 CAROLINE Springs are now sitting in second place on the ladder, after defeating North Footscray at Town Centre Oval at the weekend. With both teams competing for second place on the ladder, North Footscray were looking to keep it and Caroline Springs looking to secure it, the atmosphere was electric at Town Centre Oval. North Footscray started the match off strong, heading into the first break a goal ahead on the scoreboard, however this was the only time that the Devils lead for the day. As the second quarter commenced, the Lakers began to dominate against the opposition players. Stefan Caterino and Anthony Brook were able to gain control of the ball and get it down to their forward, with the Lakers kicking three goals to zero in the second term. North Footscray were able to get possession of the ball, but were unable to make the most of their opportunities. During the third quarter, Caroline Springs were again able to keep North Footscray goalless, whilst strengthening their own lead. North Footscray started to wake up as the fourth started, kicking their first goal since the first quarter and getting other opportunities, however Caroline Springs could not be stopped as they kicked another three goals and defeating the Devils by 35-points. At the same time down at Heathdale Oval, Yarraville Seddon were putting together another strong performance, as they defeated Glen Orden for the second time this season. The Eagles won 4.3. (27) to (117). Yarraville Seddon remain undefeated. In the final match of the round, West Footscray won their first game for the season defeating Manor Lakes at Shorten Reserve. It is a disappointing loss for the Storm, who s only win was from a forfeit from West Footscray. The final scores were (73) to 5.3. (33). 31 ROUND 9 marked the half-way mark of 2016, with every team having played each other once, and the Tarneit Titans and Newport Power sitting in the box seat for the Premiership. Tarneit enhanced their credentials as they demolished a lowly Braybrook side by 107-points at Pennell Reserve. Leigh Gallop was among the best for the Titans with three majors, while Jacob Styles and Zach Thornton also chipped in with three each. Todd Lawrie and Lachlan Liddicoat also kicked two of their own for Tarneit, while Joshua Watterson and Adam Miriklis were also among the best players. For Braybrook Nathan Calleja continued his strong season with a good performance, while Heath Hunter and Paul Cutajar-Milosev were the only goal kickers for the Brookers with two-apiece. Tarneit came firing out of the blocks with a six goal to none first quarter, as they went 40-points up at the first change, all the while keeping Braybrook scoreless. The second quarter followed suit as the Titans kicked five goals to find themselves a healthy 73-points up at the main change. Braybrook finally got their first two majors in the third term, however it was too little too late as the Titans would run out the game to win by 107-points. Newport Power also asserted their dominance over the competition, as they scored a comfortable 37-point win against the Wyndham Suns. Jehad Haddara and Mark Williams kicked four goals each for the Power. Parkside also showed that they are a premiership threat as they dealt North Sunshine a 49-point defeat. The Magpies were led by Adrian Gervasi, who kicked five goals for the match. Finally, Sunshine Heights dropped out of the four in a disappointing match that saw them go down by 32-points to the Sharks at Featherbrook Reserve. After the general bye, we will see the two powerhouses of the competition, Tarneit and Newport go head-tohead in what could well be a Grand Final preview. Newport will be seeking revenge after falling 11-points short in their round one clash, and could walk away victorious thanks to their home ground advantage. DIVISION 3 ROUND WRAP SENIORS TITANS FLEX MUSCLES AND BOUNCE BACK By WILL ZWAR The Sharks will be looking to assert their place in the top four as they host cellar dwellers Laverton Magpies. While fellow finals hopefuls Sunshine Heights will be looking to respond to a poor few weeks as the play North Sunshine. Finally, Parkside will host Braybrook, while Wyndham Suns have the bye. 32 DIVISION 3 ROUND WRAP RESERVES DOHERTY THE KEY IN WYNDHAM COMEBACK By RHYS WOOSNAM WITH the pointy end of the table getting tighter with every round, Newport and Wyndham faced off in a clash that would be vital in each team s premiership hopes. The Power entered Round 9 precariously placed in fourth spot ahead of Sanctuary Lakes. They needed a win over the Suns in order to keep in touch with the dominant top three. For three quarters they looked set to notch up an important victory until Wyndham came storming home to clinch the game by 10-points. Controlling the contest for the majority, Newport held a comfortable 29-point lead at the half and looked in tremendous form. Even with a small fightback by Wyndham in the third, the Power still had the ascendancy to the tune of 18-points at the final change. In the last stanza, Wyndham went into overdrive, kicking four goals and five behinds to a solitary point. It was the kind of balanced display that champion teams produce when the chips are down. One of their main contributors on the day was exciting forward Lennon Doherty, who booted four goals and provided a consistent attacking option. The result improves Wyndham s record to seven wins and one loss, but it spells trouble for Newport who now fall back in the hunt for finals. Elsewhere, Sanctuary Lakes leapfrogged the Power with a 34-point win against Sunshine Heights. They were never truly challenged throughout the day and lead at every break. Parkside s David Orchard kicked seven goals against North Sunshine. Picture: KRISTEN ALEBAKIS 30 DIVISION 3 RESERVES TEAM P W L D PTS % Parkside Tarneit Wyndham Suns Sanctuary Lakes Newport Power Sunshine Heights Laverton North Sunshine Braybrook It was an even performance as they registered 10 individual goal kickers and had brilliant efforts from the whole squad. Their victory sees Sanctuary Lakes jump into fourth spot, a game ahead of Newport and two behind the ladder leaders in Parkside. After the general bye, they have another very winnable game against Laverton who currently sit in seventh position. If they can continue to play consistent football and knock over the opposition below them, it sets up a top four berth come finals time. Sunshine Heights unfortunately sit in the same logjam that Newport find themselves in, but they will be fired up to take on their suburban rivals North Sunshine in what is sure to be an impassioned encounter. North Sunshine will be looking to bounce back from a demolition at the hands of premiership favourites Parkside. They were no match for the ladder leaders who thumped North Sunshine by 169-points. The star of the day was David Orchard who launched himself up the goal kicking table with seven majors. He is now in fourth spot, only seven goals behind Tarneit s Samuel Ingham. Finally, the cellar-dwellers Braybrook had possibly their darkest day so far in 2016, failing to register a score in their loss to Tarneit. The Bombers were soundly trounced 199 to zero. They now have a record of nine straight losses to start the season and do not look like improving anytime soon.

34 UMPIRES CORNER EXPERIENCE MEETS YOUTH ON THE FOOTY FIELD By GRAEME HODGART EVERY so often something happens on the football field that appeals to certain people in the football world. Just recently in the Under 19 Division 2 match between Wyndhamvale and Sanctuary Lakes someone stumbled upon a very interesting fact. The panel of umpires comprised three field umpires, two boundary umpires and two goal umpires. Between the seven umpires there was a total of 98 years of umpiring experience between them. That was significant in itself, but the real point was that the three field umpires covered 93 years of those years between them. The four others only had five years umpiring experience in total! The likes of Merv, Phil and Terry can t go on forever and it is important that there are others who are willing and prepared to step up and take their place. The various academies have been a truly fantastic breeding ground for a new generation of umpires whether it be in the field, running the boundary or waving the flags. See if you can spot some of these dedicated youngsters out there in the middle of our WRFL grounds this Saturday or Sunday. The three field umpires were Merv Bartley, Phil Henderson and Terry O Donnell who are all definitely in the veteran class. One of the boundary umpires was 14-year-old Lucas Rubeli who is in his second year of umpiring. The other three were all first year umpires. They were 13-year-old Matthew Spinks on the boundary and in the goals were the brother and sister duo Kai Logan (12) and Ella Logan (15). The combination of the old and the young proved to be very effective with all seven umpires doing their respective umpiring disciplines proud. Hopefully Merv, Phil and Terry, who all admit that they don t move as fast as they once did, still have many more years out in the middle. In regards to Lucas, Matthew, Kai and Ella, only time will tell how long that they will continue in umpiring circles. For some teenagers it is something that they do for just a few years, but there are more than a handful of youngsters in the WRFL that are set to continue their umpiring career into the next decade. LAWS OF THE GAME QUIZ #9 This week s question: A long kick comes out of a pack and Player A takes a clear mark but he did not hear the call from the field umpire that the ball was touched. Player A is correctly tackled by an opposition player and continues to hold onto the ball. What happens next? (a) The field umpire blows the whistle and calls for a throw up. (b) The field umpire blows the whistle and pays a free kick to Player A. (c) The field umpire blows the whistle and pays a free kick against Player A. (d) The field umpire blows the whistle and pays a mark to Player A. Be sure to check out the correct answer in next week s WRFL Footy Record. 32

39 UNDER 19 S ROUND WRAP FINAL QUARTER CHARGE GIVES TIGERS TOP SPOT By ASH BOLT WERRIBEE Districts cemented their spot on top of the ladder with a come from behind win over Hoppers Crossing at Hogans Road Reserve. The Warriors got the better of the first quarter, keeping the ball in their half of the ground for most of the time and kicking three goals to one to lead by 12-points at the first break. Werribee Districts came out stronger in the second quarter, but the rain made kicking and marking difficult and both teams could only add one goal each before half-time. The rain cleared up in the third term and the Tigers forwards looked dangerous on the lead, but inaccurate kicking meant they couldn t reduce the lead before Hoppers Crossing kicked the last three goals of the quarter to take a 27-point lead into the final term. The Warriors looked set for a comfortable win and top spot on the ladder before Werribee Districts turned the game on its head in the last quarter. The Tigers came out firing and overran Hoppers Crossing, kicking five goals to none for an eight point win. Aaron Law kicked three important goals for the Tigers in the last quarter and both Daniel Kerruish and Joel Russell kicked two. Brayden Kitchen was the best on ground for Hoppers Crossing and finished with three goals while Jackson Fullerton also kicked two goals. Yarraville Seddon scored their second win of the season beating Spotswood by 39-points at McLean Reserve. After an even first quarter where both teams kicked two goals each, the Eagles were able to restrict Spotswood to just one more goal for the rest of the game while kicking seven of their own to take home the win. Jake King and Ben Wagland were Yarraville Seddon s best on the day and Lachlan Formosa was the only multiple goal kicker with two for the Eagles. Jaii Bunting and Joshua Drage were the standouts for Spotswood. In the final game of the round, Deer Park defeated Altona by 35-points at Grant Reserve. 46 UNDER 19 S ROUND WRAP WET CONDITIONS DON T DAMPEN ALBION S DAY By NICK GALEA ALBION have established themselves as a genuine premiership threat after defeating Werribee Districts, 9.5. (59) to 4.6. (30) in a heavily contested game under overcast conditions at JR Parsons Reserve. Early on both sides fumbled the ball as they adjusted to the slippery conditions, but it was Albion who got off to the best possible start with James Henzcel slotting two early goals. Werribee would rue some near misses which either hit the post or were touched on the goal-line. At quarter time Albion led 3.2. (20) to Werribee Districts 0.2. (2). Werribee began the second quarter far stronger, but weren t able to capitalise on their opportunities. Albion made them pay as Bradley Jones snapped true from 30m and Koby Wilson-Roach s set shot from 45 metres out midway through the term put the home side 29-points up. However, late goals to Werribee s Ryan Larsen and Charlie Peixoto narrowed the margin to a manageable 16-points at the main break. Goals were difficult to come by in the third quarter until James Leach broke the deadlock to give Albion a four goal lead. Within a minute Charlie Peixoto responded for Werribee who had kicked three of the last four majors. A steadier to Bradley Kendall-Coyle restored the buffer with Leach soon after again getting on the scoreboard to leave Werribee down 28-points down at the last change. Despite an early shot in the last quarter from Ryan Larsen which slid across the face, Albion were never threatened by Werribee as they dominated the final quarter despite UNDER 19 DIVISION 2 TEAM P W L D PTS % Newport Power Albion Werribee Districts slotting only the one goal from Brandon Reid to record a reasonably comfortable victory by 29-points. Albion s James Henczel and James Leach both slotted two goals, Liam White was everywhere and Akon Maiwen used his ruck dominance to give the midfield good service. Scott Woods and Harley Kilby had the ball on a string and Charlie Peixoto kicked three goals for Werribee Districts. In the second match of the round, Newport Power scored a big win against Wyndhamvale at Langshaw Reserve. The Power won its sixth win of the season, defeating the Falcons (134) to 5.9. (39). Youseef El Hawli was clearly the best player on the ground, he kicked nine goals for the Power, in what was a dominant display up forward. Jehad Haddara bagged six goals. He backed it up in the afternoon in the Power s senior team, where he also kicked four goals. Round 10 will just see a single game played between Newport and Wyndhamvale under lights at Wyndhamvale South Oval. Werribee Districts, Albion and Sanctuary Lakes have the bye for the week.
