FILLMORE CHRONOLOGY 1854 AUG 22 Charles Sherlock Fillmore was born at 4 a.m., in St. Cloud, Stearns County, Minnesota (six miles between the Sauk and Mississippi Rivers), on a Chippewa Indian Reservation; eldest child of Henry Glezen and Mary Georgiana Stone) Fillmore Enumerated in the 1860 Federal Population Census with his father, mother, and his brother Norton in St. Cloud, Minnesota At age 10, he dislocated his hip in an ice skating accident; had permanent trauma Charles worked as a printer's apprentice tutored by Mrs. Edgar Taylor and influenced by transcendental thought; worked as a grocery clerk and later worked as assistant cashier in a bank; the cashier, J. G. Smith (formerly of New York), was his good friend; Charles learned his penmanship from Smith Enumerated in the 1870 Federal Population Census with his mother and brother in St. Cloud, Minnesota At age 19, he left Minnesota for Paris, Texas (Caddo, Indian Territory); in a few months got a clerkship in the freight office of the M. K.& T. Railroad at Dennison, Texas (remained in this capacity for six years and worked up to cashier); he sent for his mother Met Mary Caroline "Myrtle" Page, a school teacher, in Dennison, Texas Went to Leadville, Colorado; took a course in metallurgy and became a mining assayer, located at Gunnison City, Colorado (Myrtle left Texas and returned to her brother's home in Clinton, Missouri) JUN 14 Enumerated in the 1880 Federal Population Census in Gunnison City, Gunnison County, Colorado MAR 29 At age 27, Charles married Myrtle Page in Clinton, Henry County, Missouri; moved to Gunnison City, Colorado, where they made their home for a season; moved to Pueblo, Colorado, when mining boom broke, Charles, a notary public, started the real estate and insurance business "Charles Fillmore & Co.," which was succeeded by "Small, 1
