1 Year Class Name Photo of namesake Who they are/ why you chose them Nursery Carle class Eric Carle is an American designer, illustrator, and writer of children's books. He is most noted for The Very Hungry Caterpillar, a picture book that has been translated into more than 64 languages and sold more than 46 million copies. We love reading his books! Reception Donaldson Class Julia Donaldson MBE is an English writer, playwright and performer, and the Children's Laureate. She is best known for her popular rhyming stories for children, especially those illustrated by Axel Scheffler, which include The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and Stick Man. We love reading her books! Reception Ahlberg class Allan Ahlberg is a children s author, from South London and has written many firm favourites including, Each, Peach, Pear, Plum; Funnybones and Ahlberg class favourite Burglar Bill. Class work

2 Ahlberg class have been enjoying all his stories. Year 1 Hassani Class Shamsia Hassani is the first female graffiti artist of Afghanistan and uses her art to help bring positive changes to woman in her country. She uses her art to wash away the sad memories of long-time war that has taken place in her country. We created our own graffiti using Hassani s Dreams of Graffiti as our inspiration. Year 1 Kapoor Class Anish Kapoor is an Indian-born British artist famous for his sculptures celebrating colour and reflection. He designed the Orbit, the official permanent artwork for the London Olympic Park. We designed and built towers inspired by the Orbit.

3 Year 2 Eames Class Ray & Charles Eames. Pioneering designers (who were husband and wife) who created a range of furniture, toys and objects with the idea that they should be both aesthetically pleasing and functional and available for everyone. Their designs are still popular worldwide. We made our own miniature versions of the iconic Eames Elephant!

4 Year 2 Ilori Class Yinka Ilori is a British-Nigerian furniture designer who grew up on the Essex Road. He uses his Nigerian heritage and in particular, Nigerian parables as a basis for his designs. We made chairs inspired by Ilori s work.

5 Year 3 Underwood Class Eric Underwood is an American dancer and a former Soloist of The Royal Ballet. Being a male, black ballet dancer, Underwood stood up against prejudice and he was determined to not just be a black dancer but a great dancer. His story represents all of our learning dispositions. We created ballet based on Underwood s life and we created some art work inspired by male baller dancers.

6 Year 3 Copeland class Misty Copeland: the ballerina who rewrote the rules of colour, class and curves (the first black principal at the American Ballet Theatre). We sketched Misty Copeland. Year 4 Mathangi Class Mathangi Arulpragasam is a Britsigh rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, visual artist and activist. She is from Sri Lanka and was a refugee to London when the civil war became too dangerous. She is the only artist in history to receive nominations for all five of Academy Award, Grammy Award, Brit Award, Mercury Prize and Alternative Turner Prize. We created collages in the style of her album artwork.

7 Year 4 Kanneh-Mason Class Sheku Kanneh-Mason has been an internationally renowned cellist since he won the BBC Young Musician of the Year in 2016, aged 17. He was the first black musician to win the award and is now a role model for young BAME classical musicians. Year 5 Maier Class Vivian Maier is an American street photographer. No one ever saw the thousands of photos she took during her life time. Her prints were discovered locked away in a storage unit years after her death. We made string instruments from recyclables then composed a piece of music in groups to perform to the class.

8 Year 5 Zhang Class Jingna Zhang is a Chinese- Singaporean photographer widely known as Zemotion. She is an award winning fashion photographer. Her work includes covers, fashion films, and editorials for multiple editions of Vogue, Elle and Harper's Bazaar. During our project we learnt all about different photography techniques. We were inspired by Vivian Maier s use of self portrait and the way she included humour into her images. We selected out favourite photos and created 3D versions of them using various materials.

9 Year 5 Singh Class Dayanita Singh is a famous Indian photographer who has won awards for her black and white photos. Year 6 Akala Class Akala (Real name Kingslee James Daley) is a poet, rapper, musician and political activist from London. He is from a musical family- his sister is also a performer, stage name- Ms Dynamite. His stage name 'Akala' comes from the Buddhist term meaning 'Immovable'. He has appeared on countless TV and Radio debates, promoting equality and fairness in our society. We took photos in the style of Singh. We have been researching his life and discovered he once referred to himself as the 'Black Shakespeare'. We watched his 'Hip Hop or Shakespeare Quote Quiz' and were inspired by him to perform Shakespeare's famous poem 'Sonnet 18'. We will be continuing our work about the evolution of the English language in Heritage Week.

10 Year 6 Lorde Class Audre Lorde was a poet (amongst many other things), who used her poetry to speak out against racism and sexism. She wrote about the importance of speaking out against injustice as Your silence will not protect you. Year 6 Duffy Class Carol Anne Duffy is the first female Poet Laureate in 341 years of the post. We were inspired to write a class poem based on Alphabest! by Carol Anne Duffy.
