2 How does Shared Ownership work? Shared Ownership is a government backed scheme to help you get a foot onto the property ladder. You part buy-buy a property, say 50%, and pay a monthly rent and service charge to Riverside Home Ownership on the remainder. Because you need a smaller mortgage and pay a reduced rent, the monthly costs are less than buying outright. Can I own my home outright? As an when it suits, you can buy the rest of your home or an extra share from us in the future, at the market value at the time. Eventually, you can own 100% of your property.
