2 SAINT ANNES WOOD DONAGHADEE Welcome to St Annes Wood, an exclusive development in the centre of Donaghadee. Donaghadee has been described as one of the best kept secrets of the Ulster coastline, an ancient gem of a town which has somehow managed to preserve much of its past glory while keeping pace with the times. It has changed little in the past century, calmly retaining its charm and character in a fast changing world. Situated on the east coast, about 18 miles from Belfast and about 8 miles north east of Newtownards, Donaghadee is probably best known for its lighthouse and harbour. The harbour is made up of two independent piers and these days is used mostly by pleasure craft. It is also home to Donaghadee RNLI Lifeboat Station. Donaghadee contains a number of highly regarded pubs and restaurants. Grace Neill's on Main Street is, according to the Guinness World Records, the oldest public house in Ireland which in 2004 received the Michelle Erdvig "Dining Pub of the Year". Along the seafront is Pier 36, a restaurant and pub which was 2006's Pub of the Year. Within the town there is also regeneration of the retail trade with craft shops, art galleries and antique shops becoming more numerous in addition to traditional businesses. The brand new childrens playground is very popular on summer days. Sport is well catered for with an 18 hole part links and parkland golf course, rugby club, tennis club, bowling club and sailing club to name but a few. The club has recently undergone a redevelopment and in May 2009 the new clubhouse was opened, making DSC one the best sailing centres in Northern Ireland.
