6 Historical Note Comar Lodge is an enchanting period home in a wonderful Highland location with an interesting history. The house dates from 1740 and was built by Roderick Chisholm. It has reputedly been visited by Bonnie Prince Charlie during his flight to the west coast of Scotland. To this day a stone in the wall of the front entrance remains where soldiers are said to have sharpened their swords and daggers before going off to fight at Culloden. It was here at Comar Lodge in 1780 when four English noblemen were sent packing by 1800 clansmen who persuaded Mary Chisholm not to let sheep on her lands thus delaying the disastrous clearances which started in 1830 after her death. The lands remained with the Chisholm s until 1947 when all was sold and the lodge became an annex to the Affric Hotel as the dams were built and the forestry planted until Comar Lodge was well looked after by a succession of tenant farmers between 1800 and 1947 with the Victorians adding both the front and rear porch as well as the attic windows. Further alterations took place in 1988, including rewiring, re plumbing, damp proof coarse, central heating and full woodworm treatment. Outside The garden extends in all to about 0.75 acres and is surrounded by mature lime, sycamore and conifer trees. There are formal lawns to the front, side and rear with colourful flower beds and shrub borders. There is scope to reconfigure the gardens to incorporate a paddock for a small pony if required. To the front and either side of the front porch is large patio area.
