It consists of approximately 5.57 square kilometres (2.15 sq mi) of land, including Lion Rock and Mong Fu Shek (Amah Rock) and their surrounding scenic hillsides. The dominant topographical feature of the park is the Lion Rock, which from some angles resembles a lion perching on a hill ridge. Amazing views from here! This former factory building was once home to Hong Kong s numerous cottage industries. Now it houses the Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre (JCCAC), in which more than 100 artists and art organisations pursue works across a wide array of art forms, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, glass art, printmaking, installation, photography, animation, video production, music, dance and drama. Through its award-winning conversion, the building has maintained its original open, ventilated structure, which allows the courtyard to be viewed from every level. The rooftop has been renovated with a glass roof to help facilitate carnivals and exhibitions, while the basement has a black box theatre. Mon-Sun (10-22) Built in 2010 as an academic building for the Creative Media Centre on the campus of the City University of Hong Kong. The structure is made up of steel and concrete with ceramic tile cladding. The ninestorey building was designed with a prominent range of spaces, light and material, which could create an inspiring environment for research and creativity. Mon-Fri (9-17)? The complex, adjacent to the Wong Tai Sin housing estate, was built in 1973 and is dedicated to the god of that name, who began his life as a humble shepherd in Zhejiang province. When he was 15 an immortal taught Wong Tai Sin how to make an herbal potion that could cure all illnesses. He is thus worshipped both by the sick and those trying to avoid illness. He is also a favorite god of businesspeople. The image of the god in the main temple was brought to Hong Kong from Guangdong province in 1915 and was initially installed in a temple in Wan Chai, where it remained until being moved to the present site in Donation HK$2. Mon-Sun ( ) Built in 2009 as a funerary building. In the old days, people went up hills twice a year to pay respect to their ancestors at their graves. They brought along food as offerings, and then burned joss and incense to wish their ancestors a happy life in the Other World. Afterwards, they would sit down and share the food and enjoy a family picnic. This Bye Saan tradition has been practiced for thousands of years in China. One of the most beautiful and arrestingly built environments in Hong Kong, this large Buddhist complex, originally dating from the 1930s, was rebuilt completely of wood (and not a single nail) in the style of the Tang dynasty in It is a serene place, with lotus ponds, immaculate bonsai tea plants and bougainvillea, and silent nuns delivering offerings of fruit and rice to Buddha and arhats (Buddhist disciples freed from the cycle of birth and death) or chanting behind intricately carved screens. The design (involving intricately interlocking sections of wood joined without a single nail) is intended to demonstrate the harmony of humans with nature. S 香港理工大学 Cutting through Diamond Hill s myriad of high-rise apartments is the tranquil Nan Lian Garden, a public park also built in the style of the Tang dynasty. Its scenic garden is meticulously landscaped over an area of 3.5 hectares, in which every hill, rock, body of water, plant and timber structure has been placed according to specific rules and methods. There are permanent exhibitions of Chinese timber architecture, rocks and potted plants, while the hungry might want to try the vegetarian restaurant or teahouse. Mon-Sun (7-21) Built in 2010 as a 28-storey mixed-use building which includes housing, offices, retail spaces and a car park. Kowloon Bay, once dependent on manufacturing, is undergoing transformation of rejuvenation. The target was to contribute a greening effect to the neighborhood and enhance the quality of life for users in the building as well as the pedestrians on the street level. The new Kai Tak Cruise Terminal is being constructed on the site of Hong Kong s former airport, at the tip of the old runway. Establishing Hong Kong as the preeminent regional hub for cruise liners, the terminal will have capacity to berth two large 360-metre-long vessels, each with more than 4,000 passengers and over 2,000 crew, as well as anticipating the demands of a next generation of larger ships. Views from here are stunning. Opened in 1995 as a park. In the middle of 19th century, the Qing Government started to build a walled city, which is surrounded by stone walls in Kowloon Bay. The walled city was initially used for military purposes, where it housed many soldiers and their families. During World War II the stone walls were demolished by the Japanese army. After WWII, the population of the city had risen to 41,000 by 1970s. The number of buildings was 503 in The British colonial government could not manage and control the severe crimes related to drugs, illegal gambling, prostitution and quackery in the 70s. So it was demolished in The Yamen is located in the centre of the Park and it is the only remaining old Qing building. It was built in 1847 and its interior was dominated by offices. Mon-Sun ( ) Hong Kong s Flower Market is a jungle of exotic blooms and scents that s worth immersing yourself in. The dozens of shops and whole salers here sell auspicious blossoms and luck-bringing houseplants to an enthusiastic crowd all year round. But the lead up to Chinese New Year is when things really heat up, as families flock towards the market to carefully select flowers and greenery that attract good luck and fortune as a new lunar cycle begins. Mon-Sun ( ) It is one of the most well-known street markets in Hong Kong. It sells various, low-priced products for women and also other general merchandise. noon-midnight Mong Kok is one of the major shopping areas in Hong Kong. The area is characterized by a mixture of old and new multi-story buildings, with shops and restaurants at street level, and commercial or residential units above. Major industries in Mong Kok are retail, restaurants and entertainment. It has been described and portrayed in films as an area in which triads run bars, nightclubs, and massage parlors. With its extremely high population density of 130,000/km2 or 340,000 per square mile, Mong Kok was described as the busiest district in the world by the Guinness World Records. Built in 2004 as a commercial skyscraper complex and shopping mall. It is the second "vertical mall" in Hong Kong. Don't miss Xpresscalators The longest escalators within a shopping mall in the territory. A pair of them is located on the 4th floor leading up to the 8th floor, where another pair leads to the 12th floor. Mon-Sun (11-23) This large, incense-filled sanctuary built in the 19th century is one of Hong Kong s most famous Tin Hau (Goddess of the Sea) temples. The public square out front is Yau Ma Tei s communal heart where fishermen once laid out their hemp ropes to sun next to Chinese banyans that today shade chess players and elderly men. Yau Ma Tei Police Station is a listed blue-and-white structure one block to the east along Public Square St. Mon-Sun (8-17) The liveliest night market in Hong Kong, Temple St extends from Man Ming Lane in the north to Nanking St in the south and is cut in two by the Tin Hau temple complex. People shop here for cheap clothes, watches, pirated CDs, fake labels, footwear, cookware and everyday items. Mon-Sun (18-23) Built in 2013 the School of Design (SD), part of the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Zaha Hadid's firm won the competition to design the building in The competition brief called for "a beacon structure symbolizing and driving the development of Hong Kong as a design hub in Asia". Wed-Mon (10-18), Sat-Sun (10-19) Built in 1990 as a science-themed museum. 70 per cent of the Hong Kong Science s 500 exhibits are hands-on, meaning you can literally play around with a broad spectrum of cool topics, including robotics, virtual reality and transportation. General admission $25. Fri- Tue (10-19) Located in Tai Hang, the café has a garden theme with foliage and wood décor. It s a fun place to enjoy a Hello Kitty themed meal with the menu offering a variety of western food including burgers and pizza or light sandwiches and salads. After the meal, while the kids enjoy Kitty sweet treats for dessert, parents can relax over a coffee, topped with Hello Kitty s image of course! Tue-Thu, Sun (12-21), Fri-Sat (12-22) Starting at the colonial-era Clock Tower and stretching all the way to Hung Hom, a stroll along the Tsim Sha Tsui Promenade takes one past the Hong Kong Cultural Centre and the Hong Kong Space. But like most of the love birds and shutterbugs on the promenade, your gaze will be drawn south to the dramatic topographical and architectural spectacle that is the Hong Kong Island skyline towering over the busy waters of Victoria Harbor. The new Deck n Beer bar located here is a great spot to have an alfresco, waterside drink. The Bruce Lee statue is a memorial figure of deceased martial artist, Bruce Lee. The Hong Kong memorial was built on behalf of Bruce Lee, who died on 20 July 1973 at the age of 32. It shows a classic 'ready to strike' Bruce Lee pose, as seen in the 1972 movie Fist of Fury. Built in 1991 as the main art museum of Hong Kong. The Hong Kong of Art features more than 15,000 art objects including calligraphy, antique Chinese treasures, paintings of historical significance and works by local artists. The museum closed on 3 August 2015 for a $400 million expansion and renovation. It will remain closed for approximately three years. Built in 1980 as the first local planetarium for the popularization of astronomy and space science. The unique egg-shaped dome renders the 8000-square-metre museum to be one of the most famous landmarks in Hong Kong. The permanent exhibition halls at Hong Kong Space are closed for renovation, and are expected to re-open at the end of Stanley Ho Space Theatre remains open. [Only Theatre] Wed-Non (13-21), Sat-Sun (10-21) Built in 1989 as a multipurpose performance facility to host a wide variety of cultural performances. The building is made by the Concert Hall, the Grand Theatre, and the Studio Theatre, an Exhibition Gallery and 11 rehearsal and practice rooms. Mon-Sun (9-23) Standing 44-metres tall, the old Clock Tower was erected in 1915 as part of the Kowloon Canton Railway terminus. The once-bustling station is long gone, but this red brick and granite tower, now preserved as a Declared Monument, survives as an elegant reminder of the Age of Steam. It has also been a memorable landmark for the millions of Chinese immigrants who passed through the terminus to begin new lives not just in Hong Kong, but in other parts of the world via the city s harbor. The clocks began ticking on the afternoon of 22 March 1921 and have not stopped since, except during the Japanese Occupation. The charming Star Ferry boats have been faithfully carrying passengers from Hong Kong Island to Kowloon and back since While the two sides of Victoria Harbor are now connected by a worldclass infrastructure system of road and rail tunnels, tens of millions of people still climb aboard the humble Star Ferry vessels each year. Mon-Sun (11.30-late) The Kowloon Mosque and Islamic Centre were first established in 1896, on the site where the Tsim Sha Tsui Police Station now stands. It was originally intended to serve the Indian Muslim troops of the British army stationed at nearby Whitfield Barracks, now the site of the adjacent Kowloon Park. In the late 1970s, the building suffered structural defects due to the underground construction carried out for the Mass Transit Railway. With the compensation given by Mass Transit Railway Corporation and donations from Muslims, a new Mosque was built and was open in 1984 on the present site to replace the old

Don t let a wet weather day put you off from visiting either; listening to the rain falling on the foliage from the park s 200meters sheltered walkway is pure bliss. There are also kung fu and lion dance performances every Sunday. Mon-Sun (5-22) This promenade running alongside Victoria Harbour on reclamed land west of Kwun Chung on the Kowloon peninsula of Hong Kong offers amazing skyline views. Mon-Sun (6-23) Built in 2010 as the tallest building in Hong Kong. Notable amenities include The Ritz-Carlton (stay here if you can), Hong Kong hotel, the Ozone bar and an observatory called Sky100. The Forever Blooming Bauhinia Sculpture that gives the Expo Promenade the commonly-used name, Golden Bauhinia Square, was a gift from the Central Government to mark the 1997 Handover an occasion that held tremendous significance for the world s largest nation and that stands out as a landmark event in 20th century history. A flag-raising ceremony is held every day at 8:00 am. (Be here at 7.50 am.) Built in 1997 as a one of the two major convention and exhibition venues in Hong Kong, along with AsiaWorld-Expo. The glass curtain was the world's largest at the time, overlooking the Victoria Harbor on three sides. Numerous functions are held at the HKCEC each year, including exhibitions, conventions/meetings, banquets and other special events. Check event calendar Built in 1993 the third tallest tower in the city after 2 IFC in Central and the ICC in West Kowloon. It was the tallest building in Asia from 1992 to Central Plaza is made up of two principal components: a free standing 368m high office tower and a 30.5 m high podium block attached to it. The building was designed to be triangular in shape because it would allow 20% more of the office area to enjoy the harbor view as compared with square or rectangular shaped buildings. Few restaurants in Wan Chai can offer panoramic views of our fair city, and fewer yet from a stunning open air roof terrace. Located on the 31st floor and rooftop of The Hennessy, Wooloomooloo Steakhouse (Wan Chai) is a gem for the fan of great steak, vibrant nightlife and of course, a metropolitan view to die for. Mon-Sun ( /18-23) Built in 2002 as an office tower. Formally, the objective was to make the tower look thinner and taller by making it read as two stick towers, and to heighten its eccentricity, providing presence and identity in a context of buildings clamoring for attention. The towers are clad in glass and metal, producing a tight, crisp skin. The building was the original site of the first hospital 'Wah To Hospital' (aka "Wan Chai Kai Fong Hospital"), which was built in the 1870s. It is one of the few remaining examples of tong lau of the balcony type in Hong Kong. The building also houses the Hong Kong House of Stories, where visitors can visit the Blue House s typical living quarters. Free admission. Thu-Tue (9-18) Built in 1987 as 2 Brutalist landmark office towers with a retail podium element on the ground floors and a basement car park. The new Pawn is pretty much unrecognisable from the old. Gone is the stuffy if consciously colonial vibe of the first floor bar; in its place is an open, clean and modern design, heavy on the rendered concrete and accents of lighter coloured woods, and featuring large-scale. Sun-Thu ( ), Sat-Sun ( ) Built in 1984 as a provider of tertiary education in Hong Kong. Located near the north coast of Wan Chai on Hong Kong Island, the main campus also functions as a venue for performances. Conversion of a former British Military Explosives Building. An architectural feat, this magnificent site integrates 19th-century British military buildings, including a couple of explosives magazines, and transforms them into an exhibition gallery, a multipurpose theatre, an excellent restaurant and a bookstore, all open to the public. The architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien eschewed bold statements for

The result is a horizontally oriented site that offers an uplifting contrast to the skyscrapers nearby. Experience it with a meal at AMMO. Tue-Sun (11-17) An oasis of green amid an urban landscape, Hong Kong Park is outstanding in the way its design blends in with the surrounding natural landscape. The park features an aviary, a greenhouse, the Flagstaff House of Tea Ware, the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre, fountains, lily ponds, playgrounds, a restaurant and even a marriage registry. Join one of the free guided bird-watching walks held every Wednesday by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department and the Hong Kong Bird Watching Society. Built in 1990 as one of the most recognizable skyscrapers in Hong Kong. It houses the headquarters for the Bank of China. I.M. Pei was requested to create an unavoidably tall unique headquarters in a typhoon-prone region that would represent the aspirations of the Chinese people yet also symbolize good will toward the British Colony. Comprised of four vertical shafts, the tower emerges from a 52-meter cube and reduces its mass, quadrant by quadrant, until a single triangular prism resides. A small observation deck on the 43rd floor of the building is open to the public. The observation deck has been closed for a long time and no idea if it will open again. As the oldest surviving Western ecclesiastical building in the city, its founding stone was laid by Governor Davis a mere six years after the British took possession of Hong Kong. Since then, the barren island ceded to Britain by China in 1841 has become one of the world s leading centres of trade. St John s continues to dutifully serve its large Anglican congregation with the skyscrapers of the financial district watching over it. The building you see today was completed in 1849 and extended in The cross-shaped structure was created in the styles of 13th century Early English and Decorated Gothic. Mon- Sun (7-18) Built in 1999 as the headquarters of Cheung Kong (Holdings). The Cheun Kong Centre is somewhat unusual in the Hong Kong Island skyline, being one of the few taller buildings to follow a conventional design like an American black office block, in contrast to the cacophony of architectural styles in the vicinity of Queen's Road. Built in 1986 during a sensitive period in the former colony's history, the brief for the Hong Kong and Shanghai Bank Headquarters was a statement of confidence: to create 'the best bank building in the world'. Foster responded to a site which has impressive views of Hong Kong Harbor to the north and Victoria Peak to the south, by creating a forty-seven-story rectangular prism with its long sides oriented to the views while mechanical and service functions close off the short east and west elevations. Built in 1912 as home of the Court of Final Appeal of Hong Kong. It housed the former Supreme Court from 1912 to 1983 and the Legislative Council from 1985 to The two-storey granite building is neo-classical in style supported by Ionic columns. Mon-Sun ( / ) Built in 1866 as a complex providing municipal services, including performing venues and libraries. Since Hong Kong does not designate itself or any part of itself as a city, there is no mayor or city council; therefore, it does not hold the offices of a city government, unlike most city halls. It occupied the current sites of the HSBC Hong Kong headquarters building (partly) and the Bank of China. With its clean lines and stark geometric forms, the new Hall is an example of the International style fashionable at the time. Mon-Sun (9-23) Sevva Bar is located on the 25th floor and offers not only delicious cocktails but also breathtaking 360 degree views of many of the iconic buildings of Hong Kong. Mon-Sat (12-00) Stockton is a hidden whiskey bar located on Wynham Street in Hong Kong. The establishment is inspired by the halcyon days of late 19th century London. Drinks around $201-$400. Mon-Sun (18-2) Lan Kwai Fong is a small square of streets in Central, Hong Kong Island. The area was dedicated to hawkers before the Second World War, but underwent a renaissance in the mid-1980s. It is now a popular expatriate haunt in Hong Kong Island for drinking, clubbing and dining. The street Lan Kwai Fong is L-shaped with two ends joining with D'Aguilar Street. In early days, the square housed many mui yan ( 媒人, lit. "intermediary person"), or marriage arrangers, a role exclusively held by females. Mui yan were marriage intermediaries between two families in traditional times.

Built in 2003 as prominent landmark on Hong Kong Island, IFC consists of two skyscrapers, the IFC Mall, and the 55-storey Four Seasons Hotel Hong Kong. An exhibition area, currently containing an exhibit of Hong Kong's monetary history and a library of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority Information Centre occupy the 55th floor, and are open to the public during office hours. It was located on the ground floor of Murray House, a reconstruction of one of the first 19th century buildings of the British colonial period. The building had been dismantled stone by stone, stored in a rural site for an over a decade, and then reassembled around a modern reinforced concrete building overlooking Stanley Bay. General admission HK$30, HK$15 students. Mon- Fri ( ), Sat-Sun (10-19) Built in 1998 as the fifth tallest skyscraper in Hong Kong. The Centre is one of the few skyscrapers in Hong Kong that is entirely steelstructured with no reinforced concrete core. The Centre is notable for its arrangement of hundreds of neon lights arranged as bars in increasing frequency towards the top of the building, which slowly scroll through the colours of the spectrum at night. The building, including its iconic lobby, was featured in the film The Dark Knight. This old ping pong supply store has been transformed and updated to an amazing Spanish gin and tonic bar. From the moment you walk through the iconic red doors, down the concrete steps with the green handrail and into the large open living room, you are welcomed with Hong Kong nostalgia with influences from the Mediterranean. Mon-Sun (18-6) There are beautiful private kitchens tucked inside hideous factory buildings; there are quirky bars hidden behind wet markets; and now there is Mrs. Pound, a very cool Asian restaurant inside what looks like a traditional Chinese stamp shop. There s a fun little story behind who this Mrs. Pound actually is: a burlesque dancer who made her fame in the 1950s and travelled the world on the arms of different suitors, before disappearing from the public eye in the height of her fame. Mon- Fri ( /17-00), Sat-sun (12-00) Upper Lascar Row, aka Cat Street, a pedestrian-only lane lined with antique and curio shops and stalls selling found objects, cheap jewelry, and newly minted ancient coins. It s a fun place to trawl through for a trinket or two, but expect most of the memorabilia to be massproduced fakes. Mon-Sun (9-18) Built in 1847, this remains the largest Man Mo temple in Hong Kong. The Man Mo Temple is a picturesque tribute to the God of Literature (Man) and the God of War (Mo), both of whom were worshipped by ambitious students looking to succeed in the civil examinations of Imperial China. Mon-Sun (8-18) Built in 1951 to house police officers and their families. As of 2014 the site is home to PMQ, a not-for-profit social enterprise supporting Hong Kong brands and innovation containing 130 design studios, along with shops, restaurants, a library, exhibition space, a rooftop garden and outdoor gathering areas. Mon-Sun (7-23) Built in 2012 as a 211-metre-tall residential skyscraper. Guiding the world s largest nation out of thousands of years of monarchic rule and transforming it into a republic was no small feat, which makes the museum dedicated to the man responsible for doing this even more fascinating. Dr Sun Yat-sen was educated in Hong Kong, and the city served as his base for the 18 years that led up to him officially declaring the Republic of China in Housed in the restored Kom Tong Hall (now a Declared Monument) the Dr Sun Yat-sen relives the epoch-making accomplishments of this extraordinary revolutionary, offering exhibition galleries that trace his life and close relationship with Hong Kong. There are a couple of vantage points to see the view of Hong Kong from the Peak, this is one of them, the Lion View Point Pavilion and it is popular because you do not have to pay a fee... but be warned it is very popular with the coach tours because it is free so it is always very crowded and tempers can flare when people hog the best spots! Free admission. Built in 2012 as a residential property positioned on top of a winding hillside road in the metropolitan city. The tower is comprised of 12 residential units, two double-level garden suites with private swimming pools on the lower levels, and 10 custom apartments, each occupying an entire floor with unprecedented 360 views, ranging from sqm in space. Built in 2001 as one of the tallest residential buildings in the city, standing at 220 metres (722 ft) tall, with 65 storeys. Due to the visual effect of its proximity to Highcliff, another very thin and tall building, the two together are often referred to as "The Chopsticks". Built in 2003 as the tallest all-residential building in Hong Kong and the 95th tallest building in the world when measured to the highest architectural feature. Highcliff is remarkably thin for such a tall building. It has a slenderness ratio of 1:20, claimed to be the highest in the world for a residential building. Because of this, a passive wind damper was fitted to the top. Built in 1994 as a major shopping centre and office tower complex. Mirroring its namesake in New York City, the plaza in front of the building is one of two main gathering points, along with the harbour, for Western New Year celebrations in Hong Kong. In the hours leading up to 00:00 on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve, the area is packed with revelers waiting for the midnight countdown, which is done by the "lowering" of lights on a wall. However, the celebration has been cancel since Mon-Sun (11-22) Award winning housing in the 1970s with a bicylindrical design much like a silo. Rices are indeed on the pricey side, with average spending per person ranging around $500-$1000, but for a relaxing meal in such a magical atmosphere, a meal at Shelter is most certainly worth a try. Built in 2008 as a commercial office building, rising m (979 ft) and has 69 storeys. It comprises 59 office floors. The basic form of the building is a square plan with rounded corners and a central core. The two corners facing north and south open up at the top floors to address the Harbor view. At the base, the two corners facing east and west open up to address the open space. The edges of the four façades sail beyond, creating a floating effect and giving lightness to the building. Lighting features are incorporated into the edges of the four façades to enhance the floating effect. Architectural fins are introduced on the façade in a staggered pattern to add texture and scale. A favourite for those who work around the Quarry Bay area, Sugar s stylish interiors and snazzy drinks always manage to reel in a sophisticated and well-dressed crowd. Located on the 32nd floor of East hotel, the bar features a variety of comfortable daybeds and couches along with a chic selection of pretty martinis, mojitos, bellinis and plenty of rum and bourbon with cigars to match. The north and south facades are clad in ceramic tiles and the windows are protected by sun-shading devices. It is characterised by a lightweight roof canopy, kept free of service installations; the use of natural lighting; and the integration beneath the main passenger concourse of all the technical equipment for baggage handling, environmental services and transportation. The Ngong Ping Cable Car in Lantau Island is "the" way to get to the Ngong Ping Village, which is the home of some of Lantau's main attractions, Tian Tan the Big Buddha, and the Po Lin Monastery. The 20-minute ride will take you over some of the island's most beautiful scenery. The well-preserved heritage sites of Yuen Long are a nostalgic reminder of a time when this modern town in the northwest New Territories was merely a humble market village. The Ping Shan Heritage Trail takes you on a journey in a historical part of Hong Kong that has been populated by the Tang people since the late Yuan dynasty ( ). Again, design based on the Chinese tradition of "bai saan" (climbing mountains to pay respect to ancestors) As a Chinese Buddhist monastery established for the inheritance of the teaching of the Buddha, Tsz Shan Monastery is a sanctuary for the purpose of spiritual purification, and endeavours to open the door to compassion and wisdom for the public. Within the Tsz Shan Monastery, an outdoor bronze Guanyin statue, 76 meters in height, is the second highest in the world. The general public is required to make an appointment through phone or internet beforehand for a visit the Tsz Shan Monastery. Mon-Sun ( ) The Hong Kong Railway is housed in the former Tai Po Railway Station, which was built using traditional Chinese architectural design in 1913 and is now preserved as a Declared Monument. The many questions that fall under the umbrella of sustainability were answered not just in the buildings technical design, but also in providing adaptable spaces. This quirky temple about 500m northwest of Sha Tin station is worth the uphill hike to visit. Built in the 1950s, the complex actually contains more than 10,000 Buddhas. Some 12,800 miniature statues line the walls of the main temple and dozens of life-sized golden statues of Buddha s followers flank the steep steps leading to the monastery complex. There are several temples and pavilions split over two levels, as well as a nine-storey pagoda. Mon-Sun (10-17) Built in 2000 as a museum of history, art and culture. Located within a wooded setting just out of view of Sha Tin s towering housing complexes, the Hong Kong Heritage is patterned after the traditional si he yuan; a compound of harmoniously blended houses built around a central courtyard. Notable features include a collection of beautiful Chinese paintings by the acclaimed artist Zhao Shao'ang, and a comprehensive and colourful exhibition tracing the development of Cantonese opera. Wed-Mon (10-18), Sat-Sun (10-19) This temple located in the Tai Wai area of Sha Tin honours Che Kung, a military commander of the Southern Song dynasty ( ) whose advantageous power for suppressing uprisings and plagues made him a household name. In popular folklore, it s said that Che Kung escorted the Song dynasty s last emperor on his escape to Sai Kung in what is now called the New Territories. His achievements led to him eventually becoming revered as a god. Originally built here around 300 years ago in a desperate move to stop an epidemic that was spreading across the Sha Tin area. According to legend, the epidemic began to subside on the day construction was completed. The structure you see today was erected in 1993 to accommodate the increasing number of worshippers during Che Kung s festival, which happens on the second day of the Chinese New Year. A giant statue of Che Kung can be found at the altar in the main worship hall, while the main altar is also flanked by a huge drum and bell. Mon-Sun (7-18) Built in 2010 as a design school in Rennie's Mill. The design institute was envisioned to centralise existing design programmes offered at various other Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education campuses in Sha Tin, Kwai Chung, Kwun Tong, and Tsing Yi. The building comprises a massive rectangular volume suspended seven storeys above street level on four towers supported by a steel lattice exoskeleton. The podium houses four auditoriums, a cafe, and gallery and exhibition space. Mon-Fri (9-17)? Chek Keng consist of abandoned village houses next to the waters of Long Harbour. Conveniently this area also has a hiking trail that can be reached by bus. Sai Kung is known as Hong Kong s back garden because of the beautiful hiking trails and beaches in this area. The village of Sai Kung is also noted locally for its seafood restaurants, many of which congregate on the seafront, known as Seafood Street. MTR Choi Hung Station Exit C2, then take the minibus route 1A. MTR Hang Hau Station, then take the minibus route 101M. Walking through these sections of the MacLehose Trail, you ll be treated to views of a magnificent reservoir, ancient rocks, scenic coastline and a chain of some of the most beautiful beaches in Hong Kong, looking east to the surging Pacific Ocean.
