DESCRIPTION Great Bainden is a particularly fine example of a Grade II Listed traditional period farmhouse, first being mentioned in 1295 when King Edward I levied a universal tax for the expenses of his Scottish war - the list of amounts paid include the names of Isobel Baynden. Of parttimber construction with rendered panels, tile hanging, and part brick elevations under a peg tile roof, the house is of great architectural and historic interest. It incorporates many features of the period, including large inglenook fireplaces, exposed oak timbering and oak-boarded doors.
